Days 5, 6 and 7
InshaAllah Missus is back soon. Phew!
Over the past few days I've learnt that the kids are quite smart.
The middle one used tactics to go upstairs, he knew that I was building a card cut-out castle and that I didn't want the kids going upstairs, so he assured me "I won't break your castle" ...
The same one asked if he could help me build the castle and I said "No, you are a small boy and this is for big boys", later he wanted to come on to my lap while the youngest was occupying the seat. I said, "No, you are a big boy, little babies sit in laps" and turned around and said "Big boys can make castles!" ... I was shocked ... He used his logic to say that if he was big then he should have been allowed to build the castle with me.
Meanwhile the youngest one ... around 2.5 years of life. I was searching in fact eldest and middle one for a pillow, and the youngest one said "I know where is" and he opened the cupboard and took out the pillow and gave it to me. He obviously put it there himself as well.
In the past few days we did loads of things, I took them out to see a kiddy film, to an adventure play area again, more home schooling, recitation of a few surahs by heart (practice), gardening and setting up a paving area i the garden, making trifle together and basically being silly ... brought the kid out of me.
Just a bit longer now ... and then back to my same old routine.
re: The Chronicles of the Father
Wow mashaAllah. This thread should be a sticky. Then other men who are in the same situation as you in the future or have been in the past should post their tales as well.

re: The Chronicles of the Father
Wow I am honored!
Perhaps then the thread title can be changed to just "Chronicles of the Father"
You know when my better half arrives ... I'll never undermine her role. And even though I have never said anything bad rather always said that she is doing an important job, I've never really put extra effort in to do more to help out. After this week I realise that my coming home in the evenings should be such that I can take the kids completely off her so she can rest and relax. I admit I have not always done this.
I also will leave to work super early so I can leave earlier too. Pray I keep up my new resolution.
re: The Chronicles of the Father
InshaAllah you will...but remember that we women do not take what you guys do for the family lightly, at all...well I talk on behalf of us stay home moms as the working ladies have double the role (managing their homes in addition to their jobs). But to know that our husbands go out day after day and face the mean ol' world so all of us could enjoy a peaceful life is an honorable thing.
I guess what helps each spouse it to know that their roles are appreciated and together they make a perfect team!
Re: The Chronicles of the Father
I really enjoyed reading your chronicles on parenting while the missus is away.
I think (and the wives can agree/disagree) that wives want validation of their efforts more than anything else, although a little bit of help with the kids and around the home wouldn't be amiss either. It shows them that their efforts to care for hearth and home is appreciated. You've done that admirably right here. Ms. Hareem is a lucky lady!
Re: The Chronicles of the Father
What a sweet thread :)
Re: The Chronicles of the Father
She's back !!! :)
Alhumdulillah ... I guess this is the last chronicle from me on this one, I hope other fathers can also share some experiences. Today went and did a final shop, a final clean up and got her from the airport ... went to eat at a restaurant as soon as I picked her up ... I realise that the thing I missed the most was that I was unable to hug her.
Can always make up for lost time!
Bye for now :)

Re: The Chronicles of the Father
Thank you all for good wishes and thank you psyah for taking this huge responsibility for a week and for making me able to see my family and have fun with them without worrying about the kids, though I really missed you all during my stay in Lahore and I don't think I'll ever travel again without my kids.
