The Centaurus - Islamabad

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

I don't want to sound negative, but since the majority of Pakistanis find it hard to feed their families and themselves, this really doesn't fit in well.
Let me put it as straightfoward as possible, this is a private company and they do not give two craps about the poor people of Pakistan. This does not mean we should not accept their investment in Pakistan.
das small potatoes yo...check this out

The Port Tower planned for Karachi, the financial capital of Pakistan, with collaboration from investers from abroad, the Karachi Port Trust is taking on a Rs. 20 billion project, the Port Tower Complex, the tower will be 1,947 ft (593 m)[1] high.

It should be built within six years. It will comprise a hotel, a shopping center, and an Expo center. Integrating into Karachi’s skyline, the main feature of the venture shall be a revolving restaurant, a viewing gallery offering a panoramic view of the coastline and the city.

The Tower is planned to be located at the Clifton shoreline. **When completed it would be the tallest building in Pakistan and the second tallest building in the world, the first being Burj Dubai.

how do ya like dem apples..
That has been shelved by KPT because of the lack of an investor.
I'm more concerned about security issues with that thing. I'm sure someone would love to blow it up. And to top it off, Pakistan's so called building projects haven't been going too well. You're always hearing of these new building projects, and then you see construction taking forever and projects being abandoned midway.
So we should stop building scrapers because of a security threat that exists everywhere else in the world?

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

Not cancelled though, just postponed/delayed

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

No, it will be eventually cancelled because of the lack of an investor.

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

Centaurs has been postponed?

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

Please, follow the discussion closely next time, we are talking about KPT port tower.

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

oh ok, sorry

ya i know that has been postponed due to lack of an investor

and in my opinion it was a real dum project

i want atleast 5-6 buildings 60-70 stories tall than 1 building 200 stories tall

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

Umer-

I once read that the stabilty of a society was based on the fact that the highest paid employee at a company did not have an income a certain percentage more than the lowest paid worker...and in the late 1800s the US had a huge difference...but not so now.

HOWEVER- with mutli national companies you have a CEO sitting in Europe/america who is certainly getting paid more than their ousourced/branch sitting in Pakitan/india or China...and you wonder...

Anyhow- i think the 7 start hotel is not targeted at pakistanis...rather visitors, rich expats...rich returnees.

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

Once again, does it really matter who it is targetted towards?:naraz:

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

I just hope nobody blows them up :(

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

You think this is going to happen? HAH!

Things always look great on paper in Paksitan. Its best if we leave them there.

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

I am not much for people with inferiority complexes!

I had my photographer go and take pictures of the work a while back. So please do start eating your words!:D

MOST PROJECTS THAT WERE CONCEIVED ARE NOW UNDERCONSTRUCTION!

It is time we left that pessimistic attidude in the trash...

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

It's very convenient for you to label a skeptic as someone with an inferiority complex. You need to realize most "world class" projects in Pakistan are nothing but cheap 3dmax models. How many feasibility studies has Karachi had for a mass rail system? How many times has the port tower complex been shelved ? My skepticism is because optimists sometimes get ahead of themselves.

Centaurus itself, even with all the support it has - is not set in stone. All you have there is a tent made out of scaffolding and glass. You have a sales center that looks like a triangle but no buyers. You have floor plans and dreamy stories of world class service, but all you can draw is mini buses looking for a damn picnic spot.

There are numerous other hotel projects in Islamabad, all the centaurus has going for it is a wacky design. It's easy to make a radical design that you can slap on every other website, newspaper and forum but it takes buyers to build what you want. As an investor, my money is going to Grand Hyatt, Le Meridian or Intercontinental. Not a funky little sci fi plaza.

Tell your photographer to wake me up when they bring in the cranes. It costs few hundred thousand dollars to get some design, it costs another hundred thousand to buy glass, wooden sticks and glue for a sales center. It takes the lure of sales to get investors. So far centaurus isnt exactly drawing sales. Lets see how long investors remain interested.

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

And it is equally convenient for you to sit in your armchair and dictate to the world how Pakistan is a failure. I will have you know my site records all the progress and quality of these projects. We have architects on the ground to assess these factors.

It also seems that you lack the understanding between projects by the Hukomat-e-Pakistan and those that are being constructed by the private companies. Since, you have given an example of the mass-transit system of Karachi it proves to me that you do not understand the difference between the two at this point.

Also you seem to be ill-informed about the centauraus project since you have no idea that excavation work has begun on the construction site. The project is set in stone as the architects of the project are none other than the famous W.S.Atkins & Patners.

You really must educate yourself on this project because your views are really starting to become irritating when it is quite clear this project is on track.

But make me a promise that I can bop you on the head when the cranes move in on the complex.

Another link to inform you of the construction work that is currently pending on the construction site.

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

Thanks UrbanPK and mercenary2k. Let's get the main things down:

 • Like it or not, Pakistan needs to understand how f***ing badly it needs space conservation. Let's subdivide this now-
 • The houses should be given to a real estate firm who can later use that land to make high-rises. We really need high-rises, not only will they provide us efficient housing but also help us improve our skyline
 • The subway thing. Mass transit is really stressed, be it pollution efficient double-deckers or subways. The flyovers and underpasses will prob'ly improve things but still we really need to bring in more efficient transportation means, and for God's sake ban tongas, rickshaws, and "hand-stoppable" cabs

 • Pollution. This pisses me off like hell. For God's sake get better feul, keep the vehicles in good condition, improve the environment (flora and fauna)!!

Get on my thread "Making Pakistan a better place to live.." we can come up with some really good suggestions there (ppl already have); perhaps this Centaurus/KPT kind of things should come later on.

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

Yes, well Islamabad has proper planning as you will continue to see high risers on specific streets while the rest of the city will consist of homes. Rather, I think they have planned it so it does not become a place for highrisers throughout the entire city.

These projects are not something we should stop as it will give a bad image of Pakistan to investors.

Could you link me to your thread?

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

Here’s the link: http://www.paklinks.com/gs/showthread.php?t=241568

As for what you said, yes Islamabad is a decently planned city. But what about the other major cities. The other main reason why I talked about building highrises is that Pakistan has kick ass natural habitats which need to protected rigorously. It all goes back to the environment thing again (remember, environment is a major factor affecting quality of life).

Re: The Centaurus - Islamabad

The other major cities will have to catch up with Islamabad as the bar has been raised now. One of my architects went to see the Karachi Masterplan 2020 meeting. He brought back some pictures which I will post later on, but it offers a solution even though I think it is not an efficient solution.
