There was a woman around our area who did the same, she was this meek, innocent Pakistani girl and one day she just disappears. A few weeks later she came back, escorted by the police, to collect all her belongings and gold and what not, haven't heard from her since.

It's not uncommon ... some brides are planning to leave the groom while their mehndi songs are being sung around them ... they are imagining the day they can come to a foreign country and run to their freedom ... with no one family or in-laws to worry about ... Some manage to reach this end and others don't ....

So here's the update.
Looks like some friend of hers from work went to the detectives that are on the case and reported that she had complained about her inlaws taking all her earnings as her parents back in India weren't well off and hadn't given them enough jahez. So they would taunt her and tell her that she needed to work and give them her paycheck as compensation.
What could have happened is that she probably found the courage to escape and because she doesn't want all this to become a scandalous affair, she decided to take some steps herself. No one know if she has her passport or not. I hope she does so she can go back to her parents.

yeah im sorry but im still finding it hard to believe....this may very well be the case but ive known of ppl (including girls) who have come to the states/canada/uK got their PR (i.e. green card) almost upon arrival, run away from their citizen husband/wife and inform immigration that they have been abused or mistreated when there was no such case....the main purpose was to get the PR and not the marriage....
it cud have happened either way..at this point u cant rule out any possibility

To avoid scandal... she run away..... that's funny... because she should have known that if she ran away there would be more scandalous stories than she could think of.
If she has planned it all then she must have her passport as well... and i think she doesn't need it as if she wants to go back to her homeland she should talk to her parents and file for divorce seedhy sadhey tareeky sey........ no need to create al this drama seriously :p

The cops are in communication with both parties but her location hasn't been revealed.
