The career that will take you places ..

A few years back every one around wanted to be a doctor ! … then few years later everyone wanted to become an engineer ! Recently I noticed a surge in Accountants and finance professionals …

What do you think is the next profession that will have tonns of job opportunities and will definitely take your career to newer heights in lesser time :hmmm:

Career as a pilot or flight attendant will take you places and you’ll reach greater heights in the least amount of time.

And now I’m laughing at my own joke… :rotfl:

Re: The career that will take you places ..

Everyone should want to be what they envision. Desis need to come out of this following the trend thing and forcing their children to do what looks good.

You should excel in what you like and it should take you to great heights.

If you like photography, I'm not saying settle at becoming a photographer, but excel in it.

As per experts Green Jobs will be a fad for a while.

Re: The career that will take you places ..

Thats true Mirch , but , I believe parents should collect intense career knowledge in order to guide their children… I am against forcing ones child to pick a certain career , but , I wouldnt want my child to lose out on something because they got to know about it late … and its becoming a very competitive world … so if as a parent I can help the kid by doing research and then putting the options to him… I dont think i will be doing anything wrong , hai na? :hmmm:

Re: The career that will take you places ..

there is a need for parents to help their kids with information etc and discuss it with them, there are career counselors in schools for a reason, kids may have interest in something but may not know the full story, what it takes, what the work is like, what the training is like etc.

If you go ask many teenage boys what they want to do, many would want to be videogame developers on one end of the spectrum and sports management on the other end, with assorted professions falling in between.

what parents have to do is help collect info, help counsel the kids and keep their own biases out of it. Its not just in desi community, one of my college pals was in accounting due to family pressure, eventually he quit and went to chef school because that is what he really wanted to do.

My kids are self starter and self sufficient in this respect. They know from their childhood what they want to become.

No matter what I tell them about how paying , how fulfilling , how community friendly some profession is , they have made up their minds.
There you go we do not need to provide them any career counseling or guidance.
