The other day I read a hadith from a book on Hajj about the call of Ibrahim
for Hajj. I thought I’d share it here with the guppies…
When Ibrahim
completed the structure of the Kabah, Allah
commanded him to call the people to Hajj. Ibrahim
pleaded, “O Allah! How shall my voice reach all of those people?” Allah
told him that his duty was only to give the call and it was up to Allah to make it reach the people.
Ibrahim
then climbed Mount Arafat and called out in his loudest voice, “O People! Verily Allah has prescribed upon you Hajj, so perform Hajj.”
Allah
made the voice heard in four corners of the world and the same voice reached Alam-e-Arwah (a place in heaven where all the souls reside before they are sent down to earth in human body). Every soul heard the voice and who ever responded to the call with “Labbaik” will perform Hajj in his/her life time and will perform Hajj as many times as they repeated “Labbaik”. So if my soul responded by saying “Labbaik” once I shall perform Hajj once and if I responded 5 times, I shall perform Hajj 5 times in my life time.
I pray and hope I have responded by saing “Labbaik” more than once…Ameen.
Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) revealed in the Qur’an: “And proclaim the Hajj among mankind. They will come to thee on foot and (mounted) on every camel, lean on account of journeys through deep and distant mountain highways” (Surat Al-Hajj, Ayat 28).
