Anyone tried it? A fried of mine has been doing this for years every time she needs to shed a few pounds. She swears by it and says that though it makes her gassy :halo: she cannot keep up with anything else.

Cabbage Soup Recipe
6 large green onions
2 green peppers
1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
3 Carrots
1 Container (10 oz. or so) Mushrooms
1 bunch of celery
half a head of cabbage
1 package Lipton soup mix
1 or 2 cubes of bouillon (optional)
48oz can V8 juice (optional)
Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.
Slice green onions, put in a pot and start to saute with cooking spray.
Cut green pepper stem end off and cut in half, take the seeds and membrane out.
Cut the green-pepper into bite size pieces and add to pot.
Take the outer leafs layers off the cabbage, cut into bite size pieces, add to pot.
Slice mushrooms into thick slices, add to pot.
If you would like a spicy soup, add a small amount of curry or cayenne pepper now.
You can use beef or chicken bouillon cubes for seasonings. These have all the salt and flavors you will need.
Use about 12 cups of water (or 8 cups and the V8 juice), cover and put heat on low. Let soup cook for a long time - two hours works well. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Few teachers at my mom's school started this cabbage soup diet, they lost weight within a week but once they got back to their regular diet, they started gaining that weight back.
I love cabbage soup (though I don't quite follow the above recipe) and I pretty much eat cabbage soup for dinner and take whatever carbs I want during the day. I sort of workout too and I did eventually lost some weight, I mean I didn't lose weight within a week but like in a month or so... It was more gradual then drastic..
One of my close friend tried it and by the end of the week she felt terrible.Very tired, giddy out of energy. She was unable to do her regular household work so she stopped it right away.Once she stopped the diet she gained all the weight she lost during the diet.
I don't think it's effective. It's better to do exercise regularly if you want to lose weight specially cardio and yoga.
I wanna try this diet, I need to lose 6 lbs asap. The problem is I've googled and found so many variations of the recipe. What is the authentic recipe that would actually lead to weight loss?
Riya, I tried this a few weeks ago…lost 1.5 lbs in 2 days…couldn’t keep up with the remaining days so I quit.
I tried the recipe in post#1, added some extra spices and it tasted quite good. I actually felt real good the first 2 days but I got distracted by all the yummy things I was cooking for the family
Lusi, how would you spice it up given all the ingredients mentioned above?
Nikki baji, I don't use all the above mentioned ingredients (but you can use them)... I basically use cabbage, bell pepper, mix vegetables, tomato puree, celery (sometimes I even add some chicken to it aswell), ginger garlic paste...for seasoning, salt, blk pepper (sometimes I use chicken cubes to give extra flavoring)... cook the whole thing when you are done, season with lemon juice, hot sauce, soy sauce to taste.
