The Books against your Expectations

It happens that we like a particular writer and want to read every of his works, but sometimes the writer comes with a book that doesn’t meet your expectations.

I loved reading Khushwant Singhs ‘A Train to Pakistan’ & ‘Delhi’, but I didn’t like his novel ‘I shall not hear the Nightingale’.

Coming to Urdu literature, I heard/ read many good reviews about Abdullah Hussain’s novel ‘Udaas Naslen’ and it was classified as the no.1 Urdu novel, but instead of trying to read it many times, I can’t read more than 100 pages. Such a dry and complicated novel.

Are there any books that didn’t meet your expectations?

Re: The Books against your Expectations

Quawwee bhai I've read novel many times including other novels but telling you honestly that if some one says Dry or complicated about a novel then that person has different taste.
When first time i read this novel I was in Class 8th, then i read in Matric and Then in my college life. Telling you honestly every time we feel something different in novels especially written by some great writers.

Re: The Books against your Expectations

Sannan, so you have gone through 'Udaas Naslen'. From being complicated I mean I found characters were not well defined or co-related with each other.

PS: I 100% agree that its about the topic of the book that also affect your liking and disliking.

Re: The Books against your Expectations

Read Khawateen Digest or some Muasharti Novels of 60, 70’s :cobra:

Re: The Books against your Expectations

Muashrati novel bole to?? Any examples.

I love to read 'Aag ka Darya' by Quratulain Haider & Raakh by Mustansar Hussain Tarar which dealt with the same issue as of Udaas Naslen, but somehow I didn't like Udaas Naslen. On the other side, I enjoyed another novel of Abdullah Hussain 'Nasheb' probably because it was adapted for a drama.

One more book that I bought and never read completely after 10 year's of buying it is Urdu translation of Maxim Gorky's 'Mother'.
