^Wa-iyyak Sister. I agree, but there is one thing that does matter & would contribute in rasing your degree in front of Allah (swt). The 'level' of your sacrifice!
Before the battle of Tabook, when all the Suhabas (r.a) were bringing stuff from their homes there was a competition between Hazrat Umar (r.a) and Hazrat Abu-Bakr (r.a).
Look at the wisdom of the Prophet (saw), had he asked, "How much have you brought ?" Hazrat Umar (r.a) would have gone way ahead of Hazrat Abu-Bakr (r.a) in terms of quantity. Instead, the prophet (saw) asked, " What have you left behind ?". Hazrat Umar (r.a) had left behind half of his belongings for his family, and Hazrat Abu-Bakr (r.a) had left behind for his family only the love of Allah (Swt) and the Prophet (saw).

Yes Kinzz! even giving a smile is also counted as ‘charity’.
Re: The Blessings of 'Sadaqa'
*Charity for God's sake has a hundred signs within the heart-- the good deed, a hundred tokens. Though in charity riches are consumed, a hundred lives come to the heart in return. A sowing of pure seeds in God's earth, and then no income! Impossible.

Children of Adam! Distribute your surplus wealth in the name of Allah; it will earn you more merit. Do not hold it back. You must not be remembered for miserliness, so begin with those closest to you.

Re: The Blessings of 'Sadaqa'
Hadhrat Asma (r.a) had a very large heart for spending in the path of Allah. In the beginning, she used to spend carefully with measure and weight. Once the Prophet (saw) said to her: "0' Asma, do not put by and be calculating; spend in the path of Allah liberally." **After this, she started spending most generously. She would advise her daughters and house maids: "Don't wait for any surplus or excess of requirements before spending in the path of Allah. As the requirements go on increasing in the chances of having something, excess will become more and more remote, and the time for spending in the path of Allah will never come. Remember that you will not lose by spending in charity." **
Although these people were poor and lived hand to mouth, yet they were liberal in spending and generous of heart. The Muslims today complain of their poverty, but there will be hardly any group of people among them who are so poor and needy as the Sahabah used to be. We have already read how they had to go without food for several days together, and how some of them had to keep stones tied on their bellies to relieve their pangs of hunger.

Another Hadith says that the man keeps saying, "My property, My Property". **Only three things are his property: one which he has used as food, the second which he wore till it was worn out and the third which he sent in advance to be deposited in his account for the Akhirah. Anything else is not his property; it is left behind for other people. It is interesting that man keeps collecting, toiling and bearing hardships for the people to whom he does not like to give a penny in his lifetime, but irony of fate makes them the successors to all that he had collected. Artaah Ibne Sahitah Rahmatullah alaihe, at the time of his death, recited a few couplets which are translated as follows: "A man says I have collected a lot of wealth, but generally he earns and hoards for others, his heirs. He keeps an account of what and where he has spent his money. But later he leaves everything as a booty for such people who are not accountable to him for squandering what he left behind.**
