I love that name. But I've only noticed Arabs with this surname or a variation of the spelling like Zaydan or Zedan. Maybe it was an Arab tribe....never seen it used as a first name.

Zidane is a European variation to the Arabic word Zeydan, Zeidan, Zaidan (Which are Arabic names).
It is mostly a surname but I have known people with Zeydan as their first name.

He isn't really disgraced. He is actually regarded as one of the greatest soccer players. The only thing is in the 2006 World Cup Final, he got penalized for headbutting an Italian player who was a moron and said something very insulting about his sister. Italians are never known to play fair and Zidane was furious at his cheap tactics. He got a red card and wasn't allowed to take part in the penalty kicks. France lost the final and that was Zidane's last game in international soccer so his exit from the game wasn't that great.
Anyhow Zidane is a great name. It's a very strong name. And it's pronounced Zay-dan.

Zae-dan. It's the plural of Zaed/zayd which means growth or abundance. If the bean is a boy, the husband has decided this will be the middle name.
