The Big Thread of Baby Names

Re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

Thought I would just add this here as there are some I never would have thought of as being suitable as Muslim names, especially Tomas and Leya (love that one!).. Just came across the list on Wikipedia as I was looking into something else..

Re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

thanks for the suggestions :). one of those is my daughter’s name and another is my sister’s name so still looking for more options.

Re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

How about the name “Aleezah”?
I will most probably keep this name for my daughter but never came across someone with this name so I am a little hesitant…
is there anyone you know? Want to know about their personality and all…
I am in love with the name Aliyah!

Re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

My cousins daughter is named Aliza  Pronounced “Aleezah”
She is super sweet! And so beautiful too mA

Re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

Aliza is really nice too :).

Some of the names I am leaning towards are

Aleena/Alina (which spelling is better?). Meaning I have come across: soft, pliable, delicate. Silk of heaven

Hannah/Hanna (which spelling is better?). It means loving, kind, sympathetic.

Minah- gift from Allah swt.

i still have to run them by hubby but want to narrow down my list. my toddler comes up with new names for her baby sister everyday…pretty much all her classmates’s names and family friends she likes :). she even suggested “Atif Aslam” because she likes his songs so much. LOL

Re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

Aleena is a cute name…
thankyou wendy! I think I should go for this name …“Aleezah” means joyful…

Re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

anyone know if Sabrina is a muslim/islamic name? if yes, what does it mean? i can’t really find anything clear cut on it. what about Hina?

Re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

Hina is a very common Pakistani name, but don’t know it’s meaning.

Re: Hannah do you mean rhyming with Anna like the Jewish name? Or do you mean Hana so that it rhymes with Sana?

I like Alina better vs. Aleena. What about Alayna? Ariana? Amira/Ameera?

This is the only meaning I keep finding for Sabrina: Behind the Name: Meaning, Origin and History of the Name Sabrina
Did you find another?

What about Serena? Derived from the word “serene”? Or Sarinah, which is the same but spelt differently I think but was also apparently was the name of a sahaba? Can someone confirm this?

Re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

i’ve been trying to find out…are Hannah and Hana two different names with two different meanings in Arabic? Which is which?

what is the correct pronunciation/spelling/meaning for:

Hannah
Hanna
Hana

Re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

Hannah is a Jewish name, as far as I know. It rhymes with Anna.

Hana/Hanaa is the Arabic name, and it rhymes with Sana. It means bliss/happiness. Behind the Name: Meaning, Origin and History of the Name Hana

Re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

thanks sgc :).

we like the pronunciation of Hannah, but not sure if we will use it since it isn’t exactly an Islamic name.

:sigh:

back to square one.

I like Alina, but hubby isn’t too keen on it. He likes Maria (pronounced Maariya) and Tanya but i don’t like either. I feel Maria will be pronounced as the hispanic Maria and given our last name has a “J”, it will also be pronounced as the hispanic “H” and people will assume she is hispanic :/. I don’t even think Tanya is a muslim/Islamic name but he likes it because it rhymes with my other daughter’s name and also fits well with the Americans so its easy to pronounce.

any other suggestions for names that can easily be pronounced in the US with Islamic meaning or links?

3 weeks left until due date and no name :frowning:

Re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

I’m in love with Hamdan but it rhymes with my husband’s name :frowning:

Re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

I like Leila and Mustaqim. I used to like Zachariya but its very common. I also like Aliza too but my husbands cousins kid is called Eleezah and its too similar! MashAllah my husbands family is so big, but it also means someone or other has the name I like.
