The Big Thread of Baby Names

re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

I don't mind very common names actually.

Re: Isa or Eesa - What is the best way to spell it?

can I spell it Eisah? or Eesah?

Re: Isa or Eesa - What is the best way to spell it?

i would spell as Eisa [Ei because of YE in the name]

Re: Isa or Eesa - What is the best way to spell it?

I write it as Isa. kkf's is closer to yours, but double e's looks more masculine.

Re: Isa or Eesa - What is the best way to spell it?

yes.. apparently "Eisa" looks too feminine to my husband but he's okay with "Eisah" and I like Eesa as well but between the two I would probably wanna go with Ei and I prefer adding the "h" as long as it doesn't change the meaning.

do people pronounce Isa properly? I wouldn't want to fix everyone so I really want to go with the spelling that everyone (or almost everyone) would be able to get right.

I want to add the "H" at the end of Eisa but my friend made me doubt that cause according to her that would change the meaning of the name :( so I have asked several people and they all say that how you spell it in english doesn't affect the meaning of the name as long as its pronounced properly so Eisa and Eisah would be pronounced the same way hence it wouldn't affect the meaning as long as in arabic its written the same. like the name Amna in urdu/arabic has "H" at the end but most people don't use Aminah or amnah but that doesn't affect the meaning. since these names have an arabic origin how you spell it in english doesnt affect the meaning as long as the pronunciation is correct! arghhh im so confused! baby is due any day and we can't agree on the spelling lol didn't even have to worry so much abt picking a name lol

Re: Isa or Eesa - What is the best way to spell it?

^ the word Eisa does NOT have an 'H' at the end...it won't mean Eisa [a.s].

one must have a spelling as close to Arabic spelling as possible. you can NOT add letters thar aren't even there. the example of Aamnah is irrelevant because 'H' in Urdu is silent or ignored.

Re: Isa or Eesa - What is the best way to spell it?

but then wouldn't adding the "h" to Eisa would also be silent like the h in amnah in urdu? and if the h is silent then where does the "ah" at the end of amnah come from? its very confusing :P and i dont mean to confuse you but i just keep hearing so many different ways..!

Re: baby boy name zidane

so anybody named their baby zidan? and as far as i know in Arabic it is zaydaan but is it really a nice muslim name"?

re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

Can someone tell me if the name Nisa means "women" or "woman" and is it really a name? I am like it and I know it's from Surah an Nisa

re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

Nisaa is an Arabic word and is feminine in gender.

actually it's not a name but added to other names as a last name for women in the subcontinent...it's kinda abandoned now.

my mom's name was:** Hurmat-un-nisaa** [pride of women]

other examples are: shareef-un-nisaa, ne'mat-un-nisaa, zeb-un-nisaaN etc

re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

Thanks I get it now! I thought it was also a name.

re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

u r most welcome! :)

re: The Big Thread of Baby Names

I would like to know the correct pronunciation of the name Arham...also, KKF, can you help me in finding out whether Shahzar is an appropriate name? The history etc? I've tried to google alot but come up with the same generic stuff...I was told that the name is Shehzar, but when I looked up it came as Shahzar which means King of Gold...

Adam

Thoughts on this as a name? I really love it but have been told by family members it's a 'heavy' name :-/ I've never heard this before, can any one shed some light?

Re: Adam

I have a Muslim Pakistani student with this name. My half Pakistani cousin is also name Adam.

Re: Adam

I dont know how people class names as heavy...but its a beautiful name.. Allah gave this name to Hazrat Aadam AS .. I think it means "brown" but you can double check this , an arabic friend told me this ..

Nonetheless , its a beautiful name

Adam

Yeah I think it's a beautiful name too. I guess the meaning of a name etc has an impact on a persons character so maybe due to the expectations that come with it?

Re: Adam

i've heard the same "heavy" term for Umar/Omar as well.

Aaliyah1- that sounds about right. anyone have any proof or other sources of information?

Re: Adam

these are just superstitions...there is no such thing...bekaar kii baateN haiN!

adam as an English name or AADAM as a Muslim name?

Adam

Aadam as a Muslim name. Or Adham. Don't know how to spell it :-/

I would like to know where people get this from and what it's based on. I mean is it just an old wives tale or is there some truth behind it?
