The name Hareem

I am in the process of picking baby names and my hubbys niece gave us some lovely name suggestions for both genders. Amongst the girls name was the name Hareem, it means walls of the house of ka’ba but someone told me it means turkish bath.
I also came across this Harem - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia i am thinking that harem is a- rem and nt the EE sound in Hareem as in leeks, feel and peel. I am sure a user here has username hareem also maybe shecan help too if thats her name. Someone please shed some light as i need to decide soon!!! My hubby asked the imam about the name and he said its a lovely name related to the house of Allah and childrn have a right that their parents give them a good name IA.

Re: The name Hareem

It’s not my real name…:frowning: But I think it’s a beautiful name. Hareem has various meanings, it means sanctuary, women, prohibited etc.

From Turkish harem, from Arabic حرم](حرم - Wiktionary, the free dictionary) (ḥaram) ‘something prohibited; sanctuary, women’; and later also from حريم](حريم - Wiktionary, the free dictionary) (ḥarīm) with same meaning, both from حرم](حرم - Wiktionary, the free dictionary) (ḥaruma) ‘be forbidden or unlawful’. (Eng. usg. 1623)

Re: The name Hareem

Hareem means the 'four walls of a house' and also is referred to the 4 walls of the Khana-e-Ka'ba...it's an Arabic word, of course!

Harem is the English adaptation of the word Haram just like they adopted the name Mecca. this is the reason why Saudis changed the spelling of their city from Mecca to Makkah.

Re: The name Hareem

So it means four walls of a house and not directly four walls of ka'ba?

Re: The name Hareem

can mean both depending on what you are referring to.

ek aurat ke liye uskaa ghar Hareem hai.

Re: The name Hareem

What is the difference between Hareen and Hateem (with reference to Khana Kaaba)?

Re: The name Hareem

Harem is different in spelling and pronounciation to Hareem. Now I am unsure :/

Re: The name Hareem

of course, they are two different words with two different spellings.

Re: The name Hareem

why? as you said Harem is a different word with a different meaning from Hareem.
Hareem is a beautiful name! i say go for it!
