Re: Baby Girl Names & Their Meanings

oh looking forward to this thread!!!
Have to suggest nice names for my niece ,on her way, InshaAllah!:)

Re: The meaning of this baby name: Inciya

It sounds nice.. but in a western country with western nursery rhymes, she might get teased, sounds a bit like "insy-winsy spider climbed up the water spout..."

Re: The meaning of this baby name: Inciya

Its a nice name, actually a girl here in my kids' school in the US. As far as I know she doesn't get teased nor is there any problem for westerners to pronounce her name.

Re: Baby Girl Names & Their Meanings

Dania is an Arabic girl’s name which means near/close in proximity. It is mentioned in the Qur’an and is used in the description of heaven, where the fruit hangs down close to the dwellers of heaven.

It sounds pleasant. Can anyone please tell the origin... arabic or what?? And also, how to write it in urdu.

Re: Baby Girl Names & Their Meanings

i'm really crushing on Mia right now. its a derivative of Maria which itself comes from Mary which is the english form of Mariam. its also the italian word for "mine" which i also love.

also love Eva and Ava but i don't think they're english versions of Hawwa, are they? that would be Eve, right?

Re: Baby Girl Names & Their Meanings

How do you pronounce it? Cos I just keep thinking of danya :p

Re: Baby Girl Names & Their Meanings

daaniyaa...[daal, alif, noon, yeh, alif]

Re: Baby Girl Names & Their Meanings

I recently heard the name Aivah - pronounced as you would pronounce Ava.

Apparently it means sweet melody in Farsi.

Re: Baby Girl Names & Their Meanings

Ava is Hebrew, I thought and the meanings aren’t all nice…

edit: behind the name says there are three meanings of Ava, one of which is farsi indeed.

Ava is also a feminine given name name in Persian, meaning a “pleasant sound”, mostly associated with musical sounds; e.g. “Ava -ye moosighi” meaning “the sound of music.” It is a popular name for girls in Iran and Tajikistan.
