The Best Book You Ever Read

I know we have a thread about what you’re currently reading and I often run to it when deciding on what to read next- but this time my reading nerves are famished!! They need to be quenched; I need something that’ll blow me away.

So please tell me what you’re all time favorite book was; why and a short short SHORT preview.

Thanks

Re: The Best Book You Ever Read

Hey i like that book too!

Mine would be Girls of Riyadh.

that was an amazing book!
but you know what sucks - when you read something like that there is no going back. Nothing else is good enough....

Re: The Best Book You Ever Read

illusions- the adventures of a reluctant messiah.- Richard Bach
It has left a lasting impression on me and probably the book with the most influence on me

The Prince- Nicolo Machiavelli
for my dark side :)

Loved it. Absolutely amazing. Must read.

Re: The Best Book You Ever Read

Three Cups of Tea

It left me with a great impression of what we can do regardless of race or religion. It inspires us to actually do something.

Maps of Lost Lovers by Nadeem Aslam

Not a romantic love story, more tragic realities of family/community life. I love the fact that it took the author 11 years to write it. Its very poetic and I didnt feel forced to 'relate' to it as a lot of desi authors try to do (White Teeth).

Another one, just for laughs is White Tiger.
SO amazingly funny. I had to reread some parts as they were just too funny not to.

oh and The Gruffalo...why not eh.

Re: The Best Book You Ever Read

Maps to los lovers made me naucious!!! I absolutely hated it!!
When did you read it Milly? I'm sure you're forgetting some very explicit parts of it.

well my fav is peer e kamil by umaira ahmed .that is really superb.

Nopes! I've read it about 3 times now. Over the space of 4 years.

You like anorexic vampires...what more can I say :p

Re: The Best Book You Ever Read

Maps for Lost Lovers - was depressing, I had to put it down so many times and then come back to it.

Re: The Best Book You Ever Read

Well I liked it! Jesus people! Some people (like ME) like those types of books. They're like poetry, you either get them, or they are just an empty vase.

:D

Re: The Best Book You Ever Read

Oh man -- yuppers I'm all about the vampires.
Maps to lost lovers made me gag-- you're a stronger woman then I am Mills.
