Ladies and gents , Reha , whose answer was classed the best answer by **Sweetu **, will now be asking us a question and we shall endeavour to find answers .. End of the week she will choose the best answer
She will come here any minute and post her question , so watch this space:lifey:
My question is about fabrics that dont get dry cleaned often. I had a party to go to last minute, nothing to wear and the outfit I wanted to wear had some spots in the front. I hand washed it in cold water but still the colors bled! It was a plum georgette and had super thin white piping. The plum color bled onto the piping! Its not completely ruined but pretty close to it. :(
My question is, if dry cleaning is not an option...how to clean delicate clothes at home? Is there a way to ensure no color bleeding will occur? Or a detergent you all use?
I always have this at home. You can spot clean any garment be it silk, or any delicates for that matter, then throw in a sheet of this into the dryer along with your garment. It comes out looking clean and smells fresh.
In fact this is great for speed cleaning your winter jackets or coats as well when in the middle of the season you think they need to be freshened up.
talcum powder aka baby powder (not the fancy perfumed ones) works great on oil based stains on fabrics, works best if stains are fresh. just sprinkle a liberal amount directly on the spots, fold it and leave for it 8-12 hours, simply dust it away and the powder would have sucked up most of the oil, tried and tested. it actually works on carpets and couches as well.
TLK , I am not the one choosing the winning answer , its the one who asks the question .. maybe you can give some rishwat to Reha and she will choose your answer
Mix the detergent in water before you put your clothes in it. Don't rub your clothes hardly, gently squeeze them. Let the detergent water comes out of all the parts of your clothes. Soak it in clean water for almost five minutes and keep squeezing until they are absolutely rinsed.
To dry them you can put them flat on the table. If you hang your delicate clothes, they may lose their exact shapes because there will be a lot of weight they have to carry when they are wet. And never squeeze them hardly plus make sure that the water in which you are washing is cold.
I agree with whoever said talcum powder. I have used this so so so many times. And it has always worked. I spilled oil on my dress on my sister's wedding .. LOTS of oil and the talcum powder worked on the whole thing and you can't even tell now it was once soaked in oil.
I used to work at clothing store and they would always have tide to go (wipes) and tide gel to remove stains.
Different things work on different kind of stains.
Okay, so I actually tried the suggestions…and the talcum powder worked on the grease stains on another outfit I have.
However, the Dry Cleaner’s Secret I picked up from Dominick’s worked like a charm on eliminating grease but also making the outfit look like it had just been to the cleaners.
