Beautiful places. The first thought that came to my mind while seeing the picture was it would have been very hard for the people who had to migrate from these places. Be it sikhs in 1947 or immigrants to other countries for economic reasons. For the second category, the line from Pankaj Udhas’s song ’ tere ghar main bhi hai roti’ comes to mind.

Exactly ... diaspora cant fade away your original roots & memories even after 3rd generation.Best part about Marala is that on one side of Pir Panjal Moutains are thefertile lands of Punjab & Sialkot while on other side of these ice capped mountains lies the beautfiful Jammu & Kashmir Valley
Re: The beautiful Punjab & Chenab
in my childhood I have seen the mountains of Jammu from Narowal (near Sialkot) on clear days. Not sure if they are called Pir Panjal or not.
Re: The beautiful Punjab & Chenab
Who was pir panjal BTW? Any famous saint of the area?

Re: The beautiful Punjab & Chenab

Re: The beautiful Punjab & Chenab
Also is Jammu is the shrine of Panj Peer, read this in Shahab Nama
Re: The beautiful Punjab & Chenab
Distance between Narowal and Jammu is about 70 kms. In the past I used to think that Pakistan has changed the demographics of Azad Kashmir, But seeing the geographical locations one can understand as to there always has been a connection of some sort. In some instances parts of Punjab have been part of kashmiri kingdoms. Even the Language spoken in Jammu (Dogri) is similar to Punjabi, the presence of Kashmiris in Northern Punjab also point towards these facts.

There have been huge migration from Kashmir to Punjab during Dogra Raj. Working class faced severe problems in Jammu and moved to Punjab. There is this pass (like Khyber Pass) where there was no roads and due to severe whether condition, many people died on their way. The condition in Punjab was not favorable for them (may be Punjab was also in trouble due to Sikh Raj and recent attacks from Afghans) and Kashmiri workers known as 'Hatu' got lower wage rates. They could hardly earn to meet their needs. But if we see Kashmiri people in Punjab, they prospered well. I believe Kashmiri Butts form part of trader community of Punjab now.

Butts, sheikhs (mostly traders, sheikh Rasheed), Mirs (hamid Mir) etc are present in all walks of life. Nawaz sharif is another example...

Main concentration of Kashmiris is in interior Lahore like khwaja saad rafique is from Lohari Gate but now many families have been shifted to modern societies of the city. Once roaming in the old city in Mochi Gate, I came across Mohallah Shia’n Kashmiria which means that they were shia migrated from Kashmir.

Any idea, what percentage of Kashmiri Muslims is Shia? I believe areas like Gilgit, Hazara got sizable population of Shia and Ismailis. Don’t know how much they will be willing to join Pakistan considering the persecution of Shias in Pakistan.

when I googled, I came across news items and articles which says:
(i) Kashmiri Shia are pro-BJP
(ii) Shias are next Pundits (as Pundits were expelled from valley, Shias will face same)
How these two are interrelated?

Kashmiri Shias are pro India as they think in Pakistan they are subjugated. Pundits had to leave the valley due to violence against them, with Isis phenomena (sectarianism) increasing Shias of Kashmir could face the same fate.
