I think some of the “insult” part also comes from the “age” factor.
The younger generation tend to believe that those older than them will be offended if their age is called into public attention. Whether or not this is insulting to someone is a separate issue but it is definitely rude on the younger group’s part.

I wonder if they even consider that they are slinging mud on themselves when they do this…? (“Yes, I am uncouth, uncultured and a general idiot and I’m going to prove it by calling you an aunty…karlo jo kerna hai.”)

You know your words hit me. I have seen the rudeness of some young and so not so young people when they do the same with a male except that they call him “uncle” like budhay uncle or something. I see no difference in both connotations.

I agree with Jinx … I see it as a bullying behaviour, whether its targetted at a woman calling her Aunty in a negative connotation or a man calling him budday uncle in a negative connotation …

Infact many people get away with this kind of behaviour only coz either they are in non western country or they are online .. In real life , these kind of terms cant be used as generously as they use them online , or they will definitely get done for some form or harrasment

I've met him and unless you are under the age of 15 he really should be bhaijan, not uncle.

I think i have known aunties when i was 13

i even know them now

and then there are proper aunties that are aunties.hmmphh. I dont like aunties that are aunties. hate them.

Aunty in my book is that one person who takes every opportunity to step on your sensitive issues,and wants to know more and even more . Thats the only few triats I can think of for now.
