This was the title of the thread in religion which has been closed down for no known reason other than some posters barging in there, getting personal and adding nothing to the conversation.
The conversation in that thread was so informative, engrossing and knowledgable, that I read each and every post from first to the point I reached the last post by the moderator stating that it was closed.
I found that everything in that thread posted by every person that contributed to that discussion to be free from any insults, malice or ridicule. Except for a couple of uninformed people who contributed absolutely zilch to the discussion by posting irrelevant snide remarks, I believe the discussion was absolutely enthralling.
If the moderators have a problem with certain people who cannot stick to the topic, post insults or ridicules and add nothing to the conversation, then just delete the offending posts, but for God’s sake, why stop the whole discussion? What is the purpose of this place if not to engage in discussions and what is the purpose of the moderators if not to keep the discussion on track?
Is there like a certain level of happy happy joy joy posts that must be kept in mind while posting and avoiding any other discussion that might ‘offend’ someone?
We can have posts on menstruation, sex, virginity, adultery, rapes e.t.c. but God forbid should an interesting and informative topic come up, and it has to be closed down because it might ‘offend’ someone.
Well, if stating one’s opinion through knowledge , facts and history without insults, ridicules and getting personal is ‘offensive’, can anyone please elaborate what constitutes an ‘acceptable’ discussion?
That thread being closed is a slap on this place’s face because obviously if the ‘biggest Pakistani discussion portal’ has every formidable discussion closed because it might be deemed offensive, then what’s te use of this place anyway? If no knowledge is being exchanged, what is the use of this place? Happy happy, joy joy posts? There is a limit to how much one can even stand that.
I suggest that the moderators do their job, that is to keep the threads from offensive and personal posts from any discussion…Isn’t that why they were chosen in the first place?
If a discussion is taking place and both sides of the opposing views are presenting their views from their own knowledge in a factual, non-personal way, I don’t see the reason for closing a thread down. And if someone does get personal, then delete that person’s posts and obviously that job has been made a lot lot easier for the moderators after the inclusion of the ‘Report this post as being offensive’ button.
Of course, ‘offensive’ constitutes personal attacks, not facts which go against one’s views. And I believe the moderators are mature and understanding enough to differentiate between the two.
I am kindly requesting that “The 4th Calif - Ali Karam Allah Wajho - Sunni Only” be opened again and all irrelevant, non-informative, non-contributing and personal posts be removed.
If this is a discussion board, then let there be discussion. Closing the whole thread because of fear of it being offensive will serve nothing. As long as any discussion in within the bounds of decency, manners and common courtesy, I see no reason for any thread to be closed.
