The 34-stone teenager

Re: The 34-stone teenager

the thing with a lot of people especially people with diabeties is than when they are stressed they dont notice but they start eating a lot, which slowly slowly causes people to go over weight. so obesity is realted with the mental health of a person.in my opinion it is not always the persons fault that they are obese some people become like that for their medical condition but others choose to eat a lot just 4 the sake of it.thats all im saying i dont no whether you agree with me but hey.this is my opinion

Re: The 34-stone teenager

No amount of genetic effect can lead up to a thousand pounds of fat. So all the self-proclaimed geneticists here can keep quiet. I was freakin' 225 pounds at age 18, and now I don't go past 160 pounds and have maintained it for 5 years. I managed to lose 65-70 pounds in 6 months. Obviously, "food comforts me" crap didn't get me there.

Re: The 34-stone teenager

Okay, seeking comfort in food is obviously not the case wiht everyone, but I don't think you can deny that low self esteem is linked to obesity. Obviously, it is not the case with everyone, other reasons may be poverty (junkfood/fast food is cheaper and easier for those who work alot and are too tired to make something nutritious), culture (in some cultures its alright, even desirable, for a child to be eating alot), and just plain bad habits from childhood, where parents didnt' instill in them good eating habits because they themselves dont know it..

Re: The 34-stone teenager

Poverty linked to obesity? Are you kidding me? Five bucks can buy you a fat-filled McDonald’s happy meal. The same five bucks will buy you salads, protein bars and milk. Get my point?

Re: The 34-stone teenager

Sara thats still not an excuse...fact is it is something that is self inflicted more often than not...the game has demonstrated what a responsible attitud ecan do if your overweight...
I have respect for those who dont just seek solace in food but actually try to make an active change to their situtation...why feel sorry for people who sit around feeling sorry for themselves...
Im not for a second suggesting its not a horrible reality to find yourself in but thats the thing isnt it...you didnt find yourself there you got yourself there...

Re: The 34-stone teenager

Obviously its not the same case for everyone. And I'm not arguing over why the girl in this topic is obese. My point is that pointing finger at an obese person and saying "HAH...sucka, look what you got yourself into fatty!" is wrong, just as it is wrong to make fun of people suffering from other conditions, whether brought upon themselves or not.

Re: The 34-stone teenager

Sara, you’ve made some excellent points girl, but these guys will never understand.

Game, erm have you tried grocery shopping? Sausage rolls, turkey twisters, chicken nugerts, burgers, pizzas, chips etc … they’re all like 1/10th the price of fresh fruit, veg and salad.

And the point she made about eating out of depression or low self esteem is more than valid … you weighed what, 16 stones at your fattest? That’s like half the body weight of the kids we’re talking about. I bet you weren’t ridiculed every time you stepped out of the house or met a stranger, i bet you never had kids picking on you or society (including family members) making you think that your whole existance is a burden just cuz you don’t look a cerain way. You can’t really compare yourself to this kid :flower1:

Re: The 34-stone teenager

I don't think he was insulting anyone.

Re: The 34-stone teenager

Game, you decided to take that step and you took the weight off, you worked hard and actually kept it off. No doubt, you did a good thing that benefits you and your family and loved ones.

BUT you still don’t have any right to look down on someone else because they haven’t done what you have done. It may sound funny or retarded or stupid, but fact is people will eat if they’re depressed. Just like some will drink alcohol to no end, take drugs, have unprotected sex with various partners just to feel okay about thesmelves, or cut thesmelves. Just because you did not eat out of depression doesn’t make you any better or those people any less deserving of some basic respect.

Nobody is saying that they should stay that way, good behavior and smart choices should be encouraged, but it’s cruel to berate them when they’re in pain. Whether they brought it upon thesmelves or not, that’s not up to you to judge.

Go ahead, i know i’ll be made fun of later :halo:

Re: The 34-stone teenager

So Sara and everyone else who seems to be so sympathetic of these peoples plight...

Do you show the same sympathy to say a heroin addict or someone dying of AIDS...

Their condition is a lot worse...but they get no sympahty usually...with someone with AIDS a paki response would usually amount to criticism of their sexual habits and with a heroin addict its usually their fault cos they are junkies...

I myself have sympathy for individuals plights but dont justify their situtation...it isnt acceptable to be obese just as it isnt acceptable to be a heroin addict...these are self inflicted things...

Re: The 34-stone teenager

As I've said countless times earlier in this thread, I show sympathy to everyone who is suffering from anything. Unless a person is suffering from a jail sentence or something for harming someone else. In fact I'm sure I even used the heroin addict example before in this thread to convey my point.

Re: The 34-stone teenager

Kool...

Re: The 34-stone teenager

*I don’t look down upon them of course, it’s just that I don’t want to hear excuses of how “food comforts you” blah blah. Just make an effort, and stop complaining about how it’s McDonald’s fault.

Sadi, maybe you are the one who needs to go grocery shopping. Fresh fruits at 1/10th the price of fatty junk? That’s a freakin’ joke and you know it too. In addition, I was ridiculed quite a lot due to my appearance. I realize my situation wasn’t as bad as the ones depicted in news reports, but it still doesn’t mean the mockeries I went through weren’t taxing. I didn’t whine; I just did something about it.*

Re: The 34-stone teenager

i feel sorry for this girl u know but i know a girl who was also fat and she went on a diet were she ate just boiled chicken vegtables soups and salads and she lost all her weight i dont understand why someone would do surgery?
