Imran Ahmed Mohammed Mustafa Saeed (above).
It is the second family tragedy in four months after Mr Saeed’s brother, 26-year-old policeman Mohammed Azhar, was killed in a car accident in June. Ms Afshan, 22, said the family was shocked to get a call at about 3am on Friday saying he had died.
“We received a call at around 3am about his death, giving us the shock of our life,” She said the family was disappointed they didn’t get a chance to visit him in hospital while he was fighting for his life. Ms Afshan said her father, Mustafa Saeed, had been particularly affected by the loss of his two sons in such a short span, adding the family was now facing a “nightmarish” situation.
“I don’t know how he managed to bravely answer calls and face thousands of people who came for condolences,” she said. "No-one can support a father more than his sons, but both are dead now. "My younger sisters are still studying in Pakistan School and we cannot afford the fees. "We were getting financial support from my brothers, but who will help us now? "My father cannot support us all on his little salary, as no-one else in the family is working. “We are all girls in the house now and no-one is married yet, which is another responsibility for my father.”
Mr Saeed, who died exactly a month before he was due to turn 20, is survived by his father, mother Raihana Mustafa and four sisters Afshan, 22, Batool, 18, Zainab, 15, and Fatima, 11.
He was buried at Hunainiya cemetery on Friday during a funeral attended by Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, top officers, ministry officials, colleagues, friends and neighbours.
“He was telling me a few days ago that he would get a silver medal as he had been injured in so many incidents,” recalled Ms Afshan.
“When I asked why not a gold medal, he said that’s only for people who die for their country.”
