That Masala Smell

Sooooo as we all know…our cooking can get pretty crazy.

These days we are making Pakistani food laden with masalas and ghee every single day. We have guests and that is what they like.

My issue: every portion of my home smells like mustard seeds.

How do you all keep your homes smelling nice?

TIA

Re: That Masala Smell

The only way is to keep all windows open or have strong suction system - I guess!

Re: That Masala Smell

Mustard seeds have a very pungent smell. We rarely use them when cooking and I'll even omit it if I see it in a recipe or look for a different one. Keep the windows open; turn on exhaust fan, use fragrance plug-ins (I like the ones from Bath and Body Works). You can try making a solution of water, white vinegar, baking soda, and several drops of an essential oil and putting it in a spray bottle and spraying the home. I don't know how much using incense will help as sometimes that can be too strong. Maybe eat out at times? Or bring desi food from outside when possible.

Re: That Masala Smell

Scented candles burning all around the house while you are cooking and long after you are done, a strong ventilation system in the kitchen.

Candles/fire burn oxygen........... it'll get rid of the smell. Close all your bedrooms doors/bathroom etc when you cook with strong-smelling stuff.

Re: That Masala Smell

They don't have to scented, can be regular candles as well. But scented release a nice smell anyway, so why not?

Re: That Masala Smell

I have to revamp my candle collection but OMG mustard seeds smell like the inside of a degchi.

Thanks guys!
