That long coat - Burka / Abayahs / jilbab ?

So I decided finally to get a burkha when I go to masjid. I feel funny wearing it since it’s sooooooo long. I might need high heels so it does not drag on the floors :CareBear:

Did anyone here make this dramatic transition? I mean never wearing that long gown and all of a sudden starting one day? I usually wear Salwar/kurtas.

By the way I do not know what Abayahs and jilbabs are - it just says that on the shopping bag - lol

Re: That long coat - Burka / Abayahs / jilbab ?

I think a burka is like the one piece long cover that goes over your head and down to your feet. An abaya is like a gown, like a loose long dress basically. A jilbab is like an overcoat, with buttons down the middle

I think

In that case I got a jilbab - not a burkha.

It's a nice long coat with a fitting belt. I like it - it's like one of those winter coats except it's very long.

I asked the lady if it's good for prayer times and she said ofcourse. So will see - I hope she was not just "selling" the product :(

I really do not like the regular one's that everyone wears cause it does not suit me. Those are so baggy even in my size.

It was wierd for me too in the begining but then i got used to it. In my case i wear it everywhere else as well. If not that, then long dresses with regular pants. I have both abaya and jilbabs and i like jilbabs better, they are more fitted, stylish and have a modern look. Plus they come in various colors.

Re: That long coat - Burka / Abayahs / jilbab ?

I started wearing it last yr, n i luv wearing it, and i absolutely luv it wen they drag on the floor, hate short ones :p yeh u hav to hold it up at times so u dnt trip lol, but i think they luk fab wen they touch the ground, thts how i like em anyway ... :@:

^ but why are they so long? what’s the purpose? oh some one might see the toes? hahaha

I see women at masjid wearing those really long ones at least a feet longer and totally dragging. I would not like to wear those. (Mainly because I would trip and fall a hundred million times).:silly:
