As President Obama took the audience of congress and senate for the last time in his last address of state of the union, there were many things that will be highlighted, but the one that in my view took the trophy was his nudge to fellow politicians upon insulting muslims.
With all the fear injected by the bigots and all the hatred that has spread around, I’m sure history will praise Obama for his fearless stand against the powers, whether it was for syrian refugees or gun-control laws.
How many Syrian refugees are being taken in? Rhetoric aside, deporting of Mexican immigrants is at an all time high under this regime.
And what is the deal about giving heroin addicts empathy. Why not extend that to Crack cocaine addicts as well. I am sure demographics had notn to do with this.
And what was that about good cops walking the beat. Most are in cars. Which idle away (two to be exact) while directing traffic after a Sunday service.
Southie you can always have a laundry list ready of all the weaknesses that obama might have shown, but with this hostile congress and senate he was one of the most amazing Presidents US could ask for. Name one of his election promises that he didnt act on during his tenure. Could anybody imagine bringing Gun-control reforms? And he had to do with his executive decision of which he is taking all the heat. And to be honest it has made the chances of democrats winning the next elections slim to none. As far as syrian refugees are concerned, with all the opposition he still had a guest syrian refugee invited in SOTU address. Just to show them in yo face. I'm sure he could do more if you give me better legislators.
I'm sure history will remember him as a great President under all circumstances.
Having a guest Syrian refugees while the numbers are dismally low is dishonest.
Of course one can find a laundry list of faults. And one should. And not just be a cheerleader. All the points I laid out - he chose not to speak about them.
As for election year promise re bringing justice to wall street thkeves, Obama rewarded them.
Doesn't mean I don't like him or his accomplishm3nts. But I refuse to get too excited about this Moderate.
Southie you are forgetting that he is still a President of the country where 60% of population is favouring a person who is asking for ban on the largest minority of the country. Where 80% think they have a born right to keep and buy guns from where they can. Now I completely agree that its frustrating to have such low number of refugees but with zero legislation and cooperation from the congress/senate there is as much a President can do.
As far as wall street giants are concerned, i dont think even Barnie Sanders would be able to do anything against them who is basing his entire campaign on policies against wallstreet. You think its that easy? US is the largest capitalistic economy and they play the key role so would they let you have a hand on them that easily, I dont think so.
But just do a economic comparison of where we were after Mr. bush and now, you'll see the difference. Thats exactly why none of the republican candidates is talking about economy in their campaign at all.
He truly is a model leader and Muslims and other minority groups need to be really appreciative of him. I have tremendous respect for how he defended Muslims. We had some great western leaders defending Muslims but I hardly see any Muslim leader return the favor in defending the westerners.
Defending westerners how like defending the govt? Obama didn't mince nice words about any particular muslim govts.
More than words, I want action and TBH, we have that in America for now. Police generally doesn't stand on the line if you are being physically harmed.
That's all great but reality is that there is a lot of hostility towards Muslims and there are more and more people gravitating towards the Taliban and IsIs mentality of fascist state control of religion and personal life. It's disturbing. We need to face this mullahism problem in our community.

Not defending the govt but more accepting of other beliefs and cultures and trying to mitigate the hatred, disdain and intolerance of others values. I have not seen a lot of condemnation and censure of the beheadings, rapes and slaughter of non believers.

RELATIVE TO THE RETHUGS HE DID A GREAT JOB. BUT THAT IS A LOW BAR.

You think its that easy? WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT BEING EASY. OBAMA APPOINTED TIMOTHY GEITHNER AS TREASURY SECRETARY - THE SAME PERSON WHO GAVE 100 CENTS ON THE DOLLAR TO GOLDMAN DEUTSCHE CITY SKUNK OF AMERICA ET AL. KNOWING THAT HE APPOINTED THE WORST PERSON FOR THE JOB. AND LARRY SUMERS. AND REUBEN. OBAMA PROACTIVELY PUT WALL STREET THUGS IN CHARGE. SO LET US NOT CUT HIM ANY SLACK ON THAT.

Bush took over with the tech bubble bursting. And the financial crisis in 2008 had nothing to do with Bush. The Democrats and rethugs looked other way as the big banks robbed us. After a down period cokes an up period. It is called a cycle.
He is an elected representative of people, not a king or a tyrant who can force his will on the people. Frankly the people who gave him the mandate to govern weren't that opposed to loss of liberties of people who might be wanting to harm the citizens. Freedoms should not be taken for granted, these are privileges that can be taken away. Also before pointing fingers we should look at what rights non Muslims have on our side of the pond. We got in this pickle because we attack our friends and benefactors and have failed to demonstrably condemn and fight the fundamentalists.

This! There is only so much you can do with presidential orders with both houses have republican majority. And with this amount of fear and hatred around.. phew one can only dream of forcing that prison down.
In the state of union address he spoke about cops doing their job walking the beat. Not sure which place he was referring to. Most cops use patrol cars walking the beat may sound enchanting. But is far from reality.
.not one mention was made of the multiple killings of especially minorities.
Didnt you see the only thing we republicans agreed upon in the last presidential debate? We so cant wait to get the rear end of this nigga out of beautiful "white" house!
