Re: Thank you Aleem Dar
Talking of umpires, there was this portly gentlemen (don't know his name) in India some years ago. The way he would crouch, all me and my friends could think of how any bowler running towards him can resist kicking him at the fleshiest! we were young then and not too afraid of being cruel
Re: Thank you Aleem Dar
I think I will open a thread titled "The secrets behind Aleem Dars spectacular umpiring decisions" and how the last 5 years planning prepared him for this world cup. :D
Please can you open that one...

Re: Thank you Aleem Dar
You are right. Taufel just got one decision wrong, in the final. Aleem Dar came out to be the best umpire in the tournament. Though Dar and Taufel both are exceptionally good, Dar is the Nadal to Taufel's Federer now. Taufel was the best umpire 5 years in a row, from 2004 to 2008; Dar was the best umpire in 2009 and 2010.
In that case I look forward to Taufel making a comeback and Dar injuring his knees again. :D
Re: Thank you Aleem Dar
Where did you get the figure of 57 from?
According to Cricinfo a total of 14 reviews were taken against his decisions. Billy Bowden had a 100% record too with 6 reviews taken against his decisions.

Faulty batting order led to Pakistan World Cup exit, says Imran Khan
LAHORE: Pakistan’s former World Cup winning captain Imran Khan has said that the national team’s faulty batting order led to their loss in the semifinal against India in the recently concluded World Cup. “I kept on saying that you need to send your best batsmen at the top so that they can save wickets. When you preserve your wickets, the pressure transfers to the fielding side and if you have couple of hard hitters in the team, you can always score quick runs in the final overs,” Imran said on Wednesday. “We did that in the 1987 and 1992 World Cup knockout matches,” he added.
Admitting that the recent defeat to India in the World Cup semifinal in Mohali still hurts and is hard to accept, the cricketer-turned-politician said the Pakistan team crumbled under pressure. “To tell you the truth, even now the defeat hurts because our team crumbled under pressure,” Imran said on the sidelines of a function to honour Pakistan umpire Aleem Dar, who stood in the World Cup final. Dar enjoys a unique record of not having any of his decisions overturned through the Umpires Decision Review System and Imran felt that the umpire had set a great example of how to perform under pressure.
The former captain, who presented a gold crown to Dar, said that if the Pakistan team had also withstood the pressure of the semifinal as the umpire had done in the World Cup, it would have won the semifinal against India. “What disappoints me is that this team overall performed very well and reached the semifinals when no one expected them to go this far. But once they had got into the semifinal and knew it was going to be a high pressure match against India, the players should have been ready for the situation. Unfortunately they buckled under the pressure,” said Imran.
The 58-year-old, who was in India for the semifinal, noted that he was also disappointed because India were under greater pressure because of the home crowd and their title favorites tag. “When India batted, you could see they were under pressure and except for Virender Sehwag, who batted without any care in the world, all the other batsmen including Sachin Tendulkar were under pressure,” Imran said. He also added that the pressure factor was so great that even a world class performer like Tendulkar had given at least four chances.
“India were under pressure and appeared set for a defeat but when our turn came to bat, our batsmen just didn’t absorb the pressure well. The batting collapsed badly.” Imran noted that once wickets started to fall, the pressure became greater on the incoming batsmen and it was difficult for them to perform. “There were also tactical mistakes made in the match but we had a golden opportunity to win that game.” Stating that India’s success in the World Cup was mainly because Mahendra Singh Dhoni led the team in all three formats of the game and was able to adapt to pressure situations in every format, Imran suggested that Pakistan should also have one captain for all three formats. “I would suggest that Shahid Afridi lead the team in all three formats,” he said.
Afridi pulled out of a Test series against Australia last year in England after losing the first test at Lord’s as captain. Since then he has only captained Pakistan in one-day internationals and T20 matches. Senior batsman Misbahul Haq led Pakistan in their last two Test series against South Africa and New Zealand. “There should be just one captain for all three formats of the game. My belief is that unless you captain in Test cricket you can’t really be at the top of your game,” he said.
