Thali

Re: Thali

you think that its hindu style, in fact its Indian style and many Indian Muslims/Christians/parsi/sikh also like eating food like such

Re: Thali

Oh gawd :emmy: Forks and spoons are gora people’s and we’re supposed to use our fingers, so so so???

Maroush, I like my stuff separate but I like it drag it all into a bite. Eating out of small katoris isn’t very easy for me. I do like the presentation though, but when I’m ready to eat, I pour out the katoris into neat piles around the rice and rotis.

Re: Thali

There is a restaurant near my house called Himalayan and they serve thali meals…my family is in love with them! :hayaa:

We cannot get enough of the place and the food is so good…I usually get the vegetarian thali…it has daal makhni, some sabzi type dish, and some other stuff along with a little katori for kheer.

Its so much fun…there is variety and the portions are small so you dont eat like a pig.

I would so do this at home if I could.

Re: Thali

par ap tou indian nahi ho na niksik kahe tou phr b baat hai :cb:

Re: Thali

i don't think anyone eats like that at homes. its more a "canteen/mess/working people's lunch restaurant" phenomenon.

lol@hindu style and muslim style

Re: Thali

i like south Indian vegetarian thali meal and Sambhar is a must for me!! And also paaper and achaar chutney yum!

I didn't know there were non veg thalis...I wouldn't prefer to eat it, too much food and too heavy!

Re: Thali

i'd like to try one...must b reallly filling!!

Re: Thali

I have an Indian restaurant called "Thali" under my building and they serve this kind of food, but husband doesnt like me to go there to get a meal .. u know they stare and stuff, we better off as getting in their eyes and getting some funny comments when I pass by.

ps. but right now I am so off meat and so carving for vegetarian food .. I love the pics posted here minus the meat on it.

Re: Thali

love it!

Re: Thali

On the Diwali dinner I attended they gave us a plastic thali and dishes were lined up with a person putting a bit of each of the dish!

Re: Thali

Plastic thali?

The best are the stainless steel ones you can see your face in after licking off all the sabzi :D

Re: Thali

Yes the disposable ones not the reusable! But they were like this Thali!

Re: Thali

Basically thali is Gujarati. U must have heard somewhere of “Gujarati Thali” Food. Food is served is small vatki’s (cups) because they have so many iteam’s like daal, dahi, kadhi etc etc which is thin in texture and they do not want their food to mix with each other they also have rotie, papad, khaman & nobody wants the messy plate and so they serve food in pyali.

above is a gujarati thali example.
and in Gujarat, India… gujarati people still serve and eat their food in thali.

Re: Thali

This is our state food..Karnataka ..How come you owned it? :frowning:

Re: Thali

I think they should serve thalis on flights-it would cut out the waste on packaging plus you could select veggie thali, meat thali, low sodium...you get the picture.

I don't think we have anywhere around here that serves thalis-shame really.

Re: Thali

My sister and I go to “Madras Veg Rest.” for their thaali’s :hayaa:

Daal, channay, sabzi, kheer, achaar, bhujiya, puri’s and chawal!

Re: Thali

i tried it once and it was good .. i tried it from aryas restaurant

Re: Thali

YUMM! I love eating meal in Thalis  I always thought it was the Bohri tradition. I have had my grandma’s bohri friends set up the thali meals…and their food was SOO delicious… EVEN in Bohri weddings, food is served in Thalis with 6 people for each thali. And then food is served…starting from Icecream, and then comes rolls, smaosas and snacks (appetizers) and then soup and main meal with variety of yummy foods.
