So how much thakaluff do you do when you go to someone’s house?
And how much do you insist on paying when you go to eat with someone/another family?
I have to say, I was always embarrassed when I saw the buddhay people fighting to pay whenever we dined out, but I’ve turned out to be eve worse…we always end up causing a scene in front of the staff
whats the difference?!? thakaluf, thaqaluf...and just for the record niksik, I'm never doing thakaluff at your house. I'm gonna steal your kids baby food. I love baby food!
It is part of culture of that part of the world . what is wrong with practicing your culture in other lands ? One nation's culture is always something interesting , weird , different , to other.
I always offer to pay unless someone has told me before hand that they’re taking me out/treating me. But, when it hasn’t been pre-determined, there are battles of the wallet - everyone has their money out and the server gets so confused about whose money to take.
We totally freaked out a server a few months ago. I went to pay and discretely handed her my credit card. My BIL didn’t notice until she was about to walk away - he practically grabbed it from her and insisted she take his money. She panicked - my BIL felt so guilty about scaring her that he gave her an extra tip - that and she was super patient waiting on his 3 not-so-angelic kids.
i don't get why you have to create a scene when it comes to paying the food. it's so rude honestly. make the scene when you get home or see them the next time. it makes the ones sitting at the table, the waiter and everyone else around you so uncomfortable.
when we go out with friends, it's usually split...if we have change, we fork it out or promise to pay the person paying for you later on. if they insist on paying for you, then you just get mad at them once you leave the place :D
as for going to a person's house, i do a lot of takalluf. especially if i know the food's just ok halo they insist on stuffing me but dude i can't eat that much! also, must always leave room for dessert =D
niksikkkk … ur so awesomeee for doing that … its one of my pet peeves too and i can’t help but correcting ppl’s urdu either
as far as paying is concerned if i’m out with my sister or brother then it doesn’t matter who pays we’re pretty cool .. if its with frnds then its probably decided before we walk in so again a non issue … if its co workers then everyone pays their own
as far as goin to somoene’s place is concerned … i don’t do taqalluf … if i’m gonna eat i’m gonna eat properly otherwise i’m not eating and its as simple as that
