I am not against Muslims, says Thackeray

Indo-Asian News Service
London, July 2

Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray has said that he is not against Indian Muslims and blames “infiltrators” for stoking the fires of religious hatred and sparking communal riots in India.
"Their job is to incite the Muslims and run away after lighting the fire, leaving the poor innocents to die. Those who die have nothing to do with the evil motives of the infiltrators.
“Why should Muslims from Bangladesh come here? They have come in (millions). Why should we bear the burden?”
Thackeray said he was not bothered about his ‘Hindu fundamentalist’ image. “I have no objection with my image, I am what I am. Whether people accept or reject me, I am not worried.”
He denied he was against the Muslim community.
"I am not against Muslims. After partition, those who went to Pakistan are gone. Those who have stayed back, we believe those who have stayed back, belong to us, they are ours.
"But today, the infiltrators, who try to enter our country illegally, are the ones who bring a bad name for the Muslims living in India.
“Militancy is being done by foreigners and not by those who are living here, but then you know that the wet also gets burnt with the dry.”
Urges courts to decide fast on Ayodhya tangle
Peeved at the delay in the resolution of the Ayodhya issue, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has said courts should take an early decision on the basis of whatever evidence they have.
“I say whatever the evidence before the court, why can’t they give the verdict. If the Muslims and Hindus have given some evidence, see what is right and wrong, and do it. Come on take the decision,” he said in an interview to the Hindi service of BBC radio.
He also suggested construction of a national memorial at the site and naming it after freedom fighter Mangal Pandey.
“Okay, forget that it is our right. Give land for Babri Masjid somewhere else. We need land somewhere near the original Ram Mandir only. Build a national memorial on that site and name it after Mangal Pandey, who fired the first shot against the British for our independence,” Thackeray said.
“Let all come and visit that place and know that the young man who fired the first shot at Britishers was Mangal Pandey,” he said.
