I havn’t had mine for a loooooong time and
fell outside on the curb today. Ended up with some broken skin etc.
My mom thinks I should get a tetnus shot.
Can anyone shed some light on this pleez? I am out of town right now
or else I would just go to my doc and get it from there. But since
I am away I don’t know If I should try giong to a doc here or not.
Tetnus shots are a must in Pakistan, where there is a great risk that your wound exposed you to bacteria (cow dung, horses, various animal stools all over). The shot itself is neither painful nor has much after-effects. However, here in the states, a few times when my kids fell down and got wounded, the doctor did not feel it necessary to give them tetnus shots.
A final disclaimer obviously is to consult your physician and explain to him/her what kind of surface did you fall on, and let the physician decide if tetnus shots are required. If you are out of town, a quick visit to the nearest ER may do the trick as well (you can discuss with the nurse, and not necessarily need to see the doctor), with a follow up with your regular physician, if necessary.
If the scratch was lil deep & where u hit that part wasnt clean (zinky, gutter, road, mud etc) i will suggest go for the shot. it wont harm & once aap ko vac laga huwa hai u dont need it for next 6 month or an year (ask the doc)
Safty always comes first…i will suggest go for it. After 24 the vac dosent work, so u shouldnt be wasiting ur time.
I did some research and it suggests that adults
should get booster shots every 10 years which is something
ammi had already told me. So I think I will try going to a walk in clinic tomorrow morning or call my doc first and see what he says.
The surface where i fell wasn't muddy or anything but since I havn't had the shot for over 10 years I neen it anyways.
Thanks guys for replying.
Johny Br
do u mean one should get it within 24 hours after getting hurt????
Well I knew it wasn't a big deal but I did go to the Er anyways.
I would have never paid so much attention to such a small thing
but my mom kinda got scared. She told me her father used to tell em
how deadly tetanus could be.
Anyways they did give me the shot there at the er. I was in and out
in about 45 mins. Just to be on the safe side one should get the shot every 5-10 years.
