Test XI for 2002

Though we didn’t get to see much of test cricket this year mainly because of tour abandondes etc. Who do you think were the best 11 players of the year 2002.
name 11 best players in a team format of your choice.

Matthew Hayden
Virender Sehwag
Ricky Ponting
Rahul Dravid
Damien Martyn
Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Adam Gilchrist
Shane Warne
Jason Gillesppie
Muttiah Muralitharan
Glenn McGrath

Sadly no Pakistanis couldn’t make my list mainly because of lack of fitness or abandoned tours to Pakistan.
Guys like Sachin and Lara also didn’t make the list, though they played some remarkable matches but overall they were quite inconsistent.
I wanted to put Micheal Vaughan in there but he only showed good performance against India which isn’t something to shout about, it was a close call between him and Chanderpaul.
Shoaib had a good year but just like other Pakistani players he didn’t get a chance to prove his greatness because of cancelled tours.

and where's yousuf youhana? , wasim akram and waqar younis. they all r performing great...!!!

Yousuf Youhana has only done well against Zimbabwe which isn't that impressive.
Wasim Akram played only one match this year and that too only couple overs. And Waqar had a preety ordinary year. Closest Pakistani to come to being in that list was Shoaib but he only played couple matches.

Did you specify going by the 2001/02 season or the 2002- season so far?

This is since 2001/02 season uptil now.

What has sachin done this year?

This is a form team-no?

Hayden (no reason needed)

Langer (they have like loads of ton opening stands, and he's making good runs)

Ponting (classy player, ranked no.2 in world)

Inzamam (hadful of runs, 300+, plus in UK)

Dravid (masses of runs)

Kallis (leading allrounder)

Gilchrist+ (I wont insult your intelligence)

Pollock (consistant)

Warne (greatest ever, near top form)

McGrath (best in the world)

Murali (72 in 8 at 14 apiece!)

I agree with your squad but what has Inzi done this year. Only that 329, other than that he isn't done anything special but he didn't get enough chances.

According to 2002, both Kallis and Pollock didn't do much either. Though they are classy players.

For your information ..No one has made more runs than Sachin this year.Suprised !!! yes thats true.So mcuh is expectation from Sachin that a year in which he scores more than 1200 runs and Average 61 is considered a failure.

Looking at the above figure.Only 3 Opening batsmen are in list. And only 2 can get node. That makes Hayden and vaughan(Yes vaughan can open ,he plays either no2 or 3).
Then Ricky,Sachin and Dravid automatically qualify for next 3 slots.Though one migh argue why not Inzi,Chandrapaul ,laxmanor Youhanna.Well as for Inzi his average is up just because of one ining of 329.Chandrapaul had a great year but almost all his runs have been scored against pathetic Indian bowling(that too on home ground). But youhana does stand a chance. As for Laxman…well one ant have all middle order fromoen country.

Looks like Kallis has also done very good as an all-rounder.I would rate his as bets all rounder in the world today and that definitly earns him a place in team.Though I agree Pollock doesnt deserve it.

Hayden
Vaughan
Ponting
Dravid
Chanderpaul
Kallis
Gilchrist
Polluck
Warne
McGrath
Muralitharan

Looking at the stats, Sehwag's name isn't even up there, I thought he played well, maybe I'm mixing his one day performance with test.
Now I will change Vaughan for Sehwag.

I apologise on Sachin, I include him at the expense of Langer, moving Dravid up to open and drop SRT in at 3rd, move evryone down 1.

Matthew Hayden
Gayle
Ricky Ponting
Rahul Dravid
Inzi (He hitted 329)
Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Adam Gilchrist
Shane Warne
Jason Gillesppie
Muttiah Muralitharan
Glenn McGrath
