Test taking strategies

Ok I’m an English major so for the last few years, my exams have been mostly written, and I did fairly well. However, now that I"m done wiht my major, I’m taking all my electives in economics and accounting, which are mostly Multiple choice exams… I know its a dumb Q but is there some sort of strategy to taking a multiple choice exam?? Not just econ, but any of the general education courses i need that call for multiple choice exams, I have absolutely no clue as to what i’m doing wrong. I study, i do try to understand the material…

Re: Test taking strategies

one good strategy for multiple-choice questions is 'the process of elimination'..u eliminate the choices that u know r wrong and then guess between the ones left over. :)

Re: Test taking strategies

One of my instructors once said is do m/c q’s as true/false. Read each choice and ask if its true or false.
M/c tests can be really tough sometimes and they get a lot of getting used to. You just have to practice alot and read the questions extremely carefully. It’s easy to miss a word here and there and chose the wrong answer. So be careful, take your time, and eliminate the wrong ones and you’ll end up with the right answer.
Oh, and when in doubt, it’s B :halo:

Re: Test taking strategies

try to get the review books. Also practice a lot as the MC needs a lot of it.Understanding the points from different angles.I personally make an outline like main points and bullets from the Econ courses that I am taking. And the graphs..personally Im all about the graphs..that makes me understan concepts much quicker then just plain text. What electives are u taking in Econ.Im currently taking Econ of Public Policy.Hope it helps:)

Re: Test taking strategies

Oh And also I think STP also had a thread with a link of studying better in this section.

Re: Test taking strategies

hey ask...
right now my econ electives are international finance and econ development.
I hate graphs.... i can understand when things are written out... :(

Re: Test taking strategies

Sounds interesting and mushkaal at the same time. How do you go about with the graphs...If you cant...just memorize them and then read and reread the chapter.Making bullets and points like a summary of a chapter helps a lot ..Do you have review books of the subjects you are taking, the one that r giving you trouble? They sure are worth theinvestment as a lot of the times the proffessors take the questions right out of them.Unfortunately my econ courses both dont have review books.
So I was saying memorize the graphs and then make sense of them with the text. Group studying helps a lot too.

Re: Test taking strategies

agree 100%

Re: Test taking strategies

Loved graph, tells the whole story in a glance.
I was a legend in graph drawing in economics micro/macro.

Re: Test taking strategies

Accounting people… how do u study for exams?

for hte life of me i just can’t get it, i do the HW problems fine but still… i don’t know where i go wrong, i just forget the most important, most studied detail :smack: it’s really depressing me :hinna: i need new strategies.. help ppl!

Re: Test taking strategies

answer all of them "C" and you will probably end up with a C in the class :)
