I don’t think it’s that direct. Afghanistan is a different story. There are western troops there, and incidents like TJ’s Quran burning simply create the perception that the foreign forces are anything but benevolant to the locals…it’s somewhat of a long chain of thinking, but I’m afraid I’ll have to reserve comment on how excusable such thinking is as I don’t live in a country with foreign troops and local militants fighting a sometimes-is, sometimes-isn’t ideological war.
Also, the Taliban had denied claim for the attacks on the UN workers, which does not bode well for the situation on the ground.
