Terror's Training Ground

Terror’s Training Ground

Few years ago, I met some young boys from my village near Bahawalpur who were preparing to go on jihad. They smirked politely when I asked them to close their eyes and imagine their future. “We can tell you without closing our eyes that we don’t see anything.”

It was not entirely surprising. South Punjab is a region mired in poverty and underdevelopment. There are few job prospects for the youth. While the government has built airports and a few hospitals, these projects are symbolic and barely meet the needs of the area. It’s in areas like this, amid economic stagnation and hopelessness, that religious extremists find fertile ground to plant and spread their ideology.

The first step is recruitment – and the methodology is straightforward. Young children, or even men, are taken to madrassas in nearby towns. They are fed well and kept in living conditions considerably better than what they are used to. This is a simple psychological …

Re: Terror's Training Ground

^I know that Afghanis like you will try to pin every problem in some way to Punjab, but, these araes may be the recruiting ground for some of these Talibs, the "training grounds" are in Waziristan. The correct thing to do is to capture militants in south punjab, and carpet bomb their headquarters in waziristan.

Re: Terror's Training Ground

Lets be honest here. He is right to an extent. A majority of Pakistan is impoverished and has problems. And that is feeding into the recruitment angle of the Taliban. Economic development and more importantly economic justice is needed for the areas that are not developed.

But the general notion that the Taliban are a home-grown issue with no external support is ludicrious.

Re: Terror's Training Ground

Yeah sure, Southern Punjab is training ground. Wazirastan tou aisay hi badnaam hai :)

Actually when you come to think of it, these Punjabi terrorists only target poor Sindhis, Muhajirs, etc. It's all Establishment/ISI's plan to steal Sindh's resources.

Re: Terror's Training Ground

Will u stop this nonsense
who needs anemies when you pakkies fight like bulls
shame on you people
really shame on you that you do not have the courage to
just discuss and solve the problems but only create more problems.

It should be about PAKISTAN and with PAKISTAN i mean:

Every single person living in Pakistan
regardless of religion ethnicity cast or whatever. even if its bloody ALIAN (UFO) i dont care.

Re: Terror's Training Ground

the 'taliban' is only one of pakistans problems. theres alot more, albeit hidden at the moment. if you lump all these different problems into one category and deal with it in the same way, you'll just end up in the situation the country is facing currently ie 300 attacks in the 2 or so years

Re: Terror's Training Ground

Southern Punjab

The Leaders of this area include,

PM of Pakistan Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani
FM of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi
Deputy Cheif Minister ( kind of thing) Ex- Chief Minister Sardar Dost Mohd Khosa
PM's Advisor Ex-Attorney general Sardar Mohd Lateef Khosa
Finance Minister Hina Rabbani Khar
Minister of Industries Mian Manzoor Ahmed Watoo, All well Known Lota of Pakistani politics
Minister of Education Mir Hazar Khan Bajrani

Ex-Minister Makhdom Javaid Hashmi
Ex-Minister Mohammad Ali Durani
Ex-Minister & Governor of Punjab Ghulam Mustafa Khar
Ex-President of Pakistan Sardar Farooq Khan Laghari
Ex-Minister Nasrullah Khan of Khan Garh

The Family of Doltana ( Prime Minister)
The Family of Mamdot
Nawab of Kalabagh ( Governor of East Pakistan)

Now if the area is still backward and and wealth can only be found with political families, then it is obvious who is the reason for the poverty of this area.

Re: Terror's Training Ground

at the moment one very distinct set of people have been given a 'cause' to fight for. if it was easy, pakistan would have told the US to fuf off but chose instead to face their own people. all other problems in pakistan hopefully will not end up this way, the state will not have to align itself against the very core, fundamental beliefs of any other group in pakistan. thus eliminating a 'cause' for new groups to fight on

worst thing pakistan can do right now is start pushing other groups of people closer to the 'taliban'
