Re: Terrorists kill 16 Pakistani Soldiers in a Suicide attack
while they're criminals and enemies of the state for targetting pakistani forces, I think we'd be doing ourselves a massive disservice if we start calling these people terrorists. people who target army units are not terrorists, no matter how much you dislike them.
They have also targeted police, girls schools, NGO's, musci shops etc... What more do you need to justify the classification?

Re: Terrorists kill 16 Pakistani Soldiers in a Suicide attack
34 dead in Pakistan militant battles MIRANSHAH, Pakistan, July 18 (AFP) - Pakistani soldiers Wednesday fought fierce gunbattles with militants after two separate ambushes in the North Waziristan tribal region near the Afghan border, leaving 17 troops dead and at least the same number of rebels, the army said. In the first attack, insurgents fired rockets at a military convoy and then opened fire with automatic weapons near the village of Lwara Mundi, chief military spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad said. “Seventeen soldiers were martyred and more than a dozen miscreants were also killed when troops returned fire,” he said. “Initial reports say that the fighting was heavy,” a senior security official based in the area said. The mountainous area where the ambush took place is near where Pakistani forces earlier this year erected the first 35-kilometre fence along the border with Afghanistan. About six hours later another clash erupted after militants attacked troops in Mir Ali, about 50 kilometres away in the same region. Five rebels were killed and there were no military casualties, General Arshad said. In another violence overnight a roadside bomb blast in North Waziristan injured six civilians and a soldier. The civilians were in a car which fell into a ditch by the impact of the bomb blast. Separately a landmine exploded overnight outside the home of politician Mohammad Ajmal Khan, who served as federal sports minister in the 1990s, in Miranshah, the main town in the tribal area. The blast destroyed his front gate but caused no casualties, officials said.(Posted @ 18:45 PST)

if "they" are a homogenous group who bombed/used force against civilians then yea they're terrorists. However as far as I am aware, they're not.
if you call every attack on military targets terrorism then you risk conflating whats happening in Pakistan with legitimate freedom fights such as those in Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Well they, rally under the banner of a single cause and thus they are a homogenous group... They may have various methods and work independantly, but they all have one binding feature, that being Islamist terror.
And as for Kashmir, the miltants of Kashmir have long since lost the title of freedom fighter even in the eyes of the Kashmiris themselvs...
Regardless, the terrorists of Pakistan arent fighting for freedom, they fight to impose their Islamist will on others through the use of terror and intimidation, hence by most definitions, this would mean that they are terrorists!

The only definition that matters is the one that is right.
I know that some of the groups fighting in Kashmir can be rightly classed as terrorists. Certainly those targetting civilians. However, when you broadly brush alll those with the same aim under the same label you criminalize people we have been supporting ideologically (leaving aside which groups that support winded up going to and what they did with it), whether in Palestine or Kashmir or Chechenya or Afghanistan.
If they are interconnected, then yea they're terrorists. But I dont know that yet, and person X doesnt become a terrorist if he attacks a military installation.
You cant say that everyone who fights against us is a terrorist. Thats a self defeating argument because even I sitting here can poke holes into it and Im on the same side you are.

i believe these exact "terrorist" tribes were the once who conquered the mirpuri-speaking areas that are now "azad kashmir" from the dogra army of J&K in 1947. it has been the policy of pak army from day 1 to utilize these areas as merceneries, arming them, and not making attempts to educate them, or bring them into the mainstream political process of the country.
funny how someone on this thread asked where do these people get their weaponry from, or why they dont spread their agenda thru politics and education. good question buddy.

I mean FATA is another country as far as I am concerned.
there is no governmnetal or federal presence. A Pakistani citizen cannot enter that area without tribal approval and these animals attack our troops.
So what is the point?
I don't consider these people pakistani and they don't consider themselves Pakistani
We got lumped together with these animals when Pakistan was created.

used them as merceneries and cannon-fodder for 60 years, only land ever gained through armed conflict by pak was by them, but never let progress through education or political process enter their area.
