British forces using tanks broke down the walls of the central jail in the southern city of Basra late Monday and freed two Britons, allegedly undercover commandos, who had been arrested on charges of shooting two Iraqi policemen.
Witnesses said about 150 Iraqi prisoners also fled the jail.
Violence flared earlier in the day as demonstrators hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at British tanks; at least four people were killed.
The fighting erupted after British armor encircled the jail where the two Britons were being held. During the melee one soldier could be seen scrambling for his life from a burning tank and the rock-throwing mob.
i m no conspiracy nut but this special op by british agents in full arabic dress firing on civillians seems fishy. it could lead me to belive that probably some attackers in iraq are not mujahideen but british or cia black ops guys. i dont wanna go down that road of thought but only Allah knows the situation
FFS they only went in after the interior minister orderd release of the soldiers only to be disobeyed by the local police and handed over to shia militia. All I hear is a load of conspiracy crap on this forum and neglect for basic facts.
i dont know, but this pic on yahoo news is fishy as you can get…
what the hell were undercover agents doing with what seemshttp://news.yahoo.com/photos/ss/events/iraq/082701iraqplane/im:/050920/photos_wl/2005_09_20t104655_450x372_us_iraq;_ylt=AnP2DryFvAGOz16BpRSbOdwHcggF;_ylu=X3oDMTA3dmhrOGVvBHNlYwNzc20- like bomb making material.
how about doing a recon. They arrested militia leaders so army was keeping a low profile i.e. less visible presence. They carry equipment incase they get attacked, communications for survelance and anything else they may encouter. It's nothing out the ordinary for covert operations.
