Sensory deprivation is a psychological torture techniques used on the terrorists. The US armed forces are using these techniques on the “terrorists” in their custody. Once in this condition you are virtually cut off from the ground reality and have no clue what’s going on around you, you’re under a state of constant fear over which you have no control, this can cause hallucination and depression in no time. The US army has its justification for all this, but now imagine a nation of 160 million living in this state. The reincarnated Pakistani President is doing just the same to this nation, which is going through a stage of depression and hallucination. On top of all this, just to make sure that you still have some basic rights, he had the audacity to call for the elections in this time. Where, you can not speak, can not hear, can not see, but should vote.
But that’s not the whole story, the depression faced by the nation is not just because of Mr. Musharaf, the political leadership in Pakistan are in no way behind in inflicting pain due to their inaction. How difficult is it to decide between the elections or the restoration of the independent courts. The independent courts empower people of Pakistan from any extra judicial/constitutional acts. But after three weeks of emergency, all of the political parties have opted for the elections. Once again, lack of foresight by the political leadership has taken the old route of looking for their immediate benefits. Going for the elections shows their willingness to serve under a dictator, who will change the constitution at any given moment to protect his rule. He has already done it twice so what’s stopping him from doing it the third time. This lack of courage and disrespect shown to the victims of the judiciary is going to go a long way.
On top of all this, US once again has shown that they can surely throw away their core values to protect their interest. Independent judiciary, democracy, free media all is good as long as its just for the people in the US.
I can assure you this, we will be telling our kids and grandkids that in our short history there was a moment of hope when the judiciary in Pakistan acted independently for four months until it was killed along with the media, and we as nation went along with the murderer, this is what you are going to be voting for. Anyway, a terrorist doesn’t even have the right to breathe; voting would be a far fetched luxury.
