*lol Musharraf’s banana emergency didnt work properly I guess… Why is it that they are very good at arresting and torturing teenagers, lawyers, politicians, whereas with the real deal they cant do much. *
Rashid Rauf flees from police custody
ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: Rashid Rauf, a British suspect in an alleged plot to blow up trans-Atlantic jetliners, escaped from police custody in Pakistan on Saturday, officials said.
Rauf, a terrorism suspect in London, escaped from police custody when he was brought to appear before the additional deputy commissioner general from Adiala Jail, sources said.
Two police constables, Nawabzada Ali and Muhammad Tufail, were escorting him, and an FIR has been registered with the Margalla police station against them.
Ali told Daily Times that he tried to chase Rauf but failed. He said he did not shoot at Rauf since it could injure the many people present at the scene. Sources said the constables have been shifted to an unknown place for interrogation.
Rauf, who holds both British and Pakistani nationalities, was wanted by the UK for his alleged involvement in the London plane conspiracy case and was detained in Pakistan under charges of terrorism, forgery and possessing explosives. muhammad bilal/tariq usmani/daily times monitor
Re: Terror suspect flees from custody from thullaz
Crime has really gotten out of control under this dictator. These days, its tough to find someone who, if they havent been assaulted or robbed themselves, doesnt know someone who had been.
I personally know four different people who were robbed and two of them were house invasions.

And there was no crime during BB and NS eras. People didn't die by the dozen each day in Karachi either. Good one!

I wonder how the UK will react to this. Honestly, serves them right, they give asylums to our criminals.
Re: Terror suspect flees from custody from thullaz
But the story posted is very interesting. This happened just when rumors were about of a pending transfer of Rauf with the UK in return for BLA members. My guess would be that jihadi sympathizers within the police or courts helped him escape.
The threat and infiltration of jihadis in the system cannot be understated. Rauf and other terrorists should not be treated a regular criminals and be put in army custody. Less chance of escape. Taking them to court is also ridiculous. Nothing gets proven in Pakistani courts, not even Zardaris corruption.

No its gotten much worse... Before I had never heard of anyone having thugs come into their home, hold them hostage.. Now I know two people in my own family..
Maybe Karachi has always been bad, but Rawalpinid and Islamabad?!?! Come on!
One of my cousins had his cell phone stolen, another had their purse taken... Crime is way up in Pak.

The only way to counter the threat from Jihadis infiltrating courts and police is for civil society thats secular and progresive to fill those ranks..
But since Musharaf has arrewsted all the Lawyers, put the Chief Justice under House arrest, banned the free media, who do you think is going to fill the vacuum?
One of the main reasons for the rise of Jihaism is the fact that our dictators keep attacking the secular and liberal members of society while alloying Jihaids to gain strength.
Re: Terror suspect flees from custody from thullaz
I want to know why this chap, who is this high profile terror suspect wanted by UK escaped, and ALL those teenagers, lawyers, politicians etc couldnt. Isnt security beefed up when u have a high profile suspect in custody, especially in this banana-musharraf-emergency?
