Terms of Endearment

Re: Terms of Endearment

ewww at all these ESP jani and darling. yaara is kinda bearable. Ive seen people use 'dear' more when they are about to say something sarcastic.

p.s the only person i can stand being said jani is by my dad because he's always said it to me and it's so normal. Anyone else it's cringy!!

Re: Terms of Endearment

I use "jaani" and "meri jaan" with my nieces and nephews - it works for us because they all call me Aani, and I respond with "Aani ki jaani."

I also use, "love" "honey" and "sweetie" but it's with the little ones, and actually sometimes with my siblings as well.

Re: Terms of Endearment

ok dear

:chai:

chai peooo gi dear?

PS: I hate ‘darling’ specially when old white women use it :smack:

Re: Terms of Endearment

I dont like "Jiggar" like what am i your liver? Keep me away from your organs dude!

*Dude1: "Oye mera Jiggar aya burraaaahhhhhhh la oye dhood malai"
Dude2: "Jiggar? Are you getting a transplant?"

Re: Terms of Endearment

I think accents also play a role in making terms of endearment sound cringy. :hehe:

Re: Terms of Endearment

vaaat u saying, yaaaaaaaar

Re: Terms of Endearment

i cringe at most terms of endearment. but sometimes i'll say 'lovely' if i'm feeling all soppy.

Re: Terms of Endearment

yaaaaaaaaar......kya hai yaaaaaaaar.......chhoro na yaaaaaaaaaaar.......

Re: Terms of Endearment

LOL! I’ve heard jiggar being used (never directed at me :hehe: ) and while it threw me initially, I’ve figure whatever, it’s an impassioned term of endearment between men.

If women and men can use doll, babe, hun, snookums, cutiepie, pumpkim, apple of my eye, jiggar is no different.

Re: Terms of Endearment

snookums? the one who plays snooker?

Re: Terms of Endearment

lol i’ve never heard a woman say “Jiggar” to another woman before. I think if some girl/woman does say it they probably resemble Rani Mukharjee and have extra deep voices. I know im generalizing but i just get this picture in my head when i picture a woman saying Jiggar :D.

Re: Terms of Endearment

Word "hubby" makes me wanna throw up a little.

Re: Terms of Endearment

Most terms of endearment make me cringe. I have been called, chicken, chick, petal, love etc. But it does depend on the relationship with the person and the tone, manner they are said in. I know someone who calls toddlers 'little dot' which can be cute.

I can never bring myself to use one, that's just too meh. On the rare occasion I will use 'khala ki jaan' with nieces/nephews.

Re: Terms of Endearment

honey, babe ... (really annoys me) ... and darling!

Re: Terms of Endearment

We had a friend - who was quite fond of calling every one ' Jigar '- and then one day I asked him ' Orr Jigaar , InsaaNo mein kidhar ' ... The rest is history :)

Re: Terms of Endearment

^ Is that a blaxx joke?

Re: Terms of Endearment

One thing I heard on my last trip to Pakistan which was right out disgusting i.e Cloth Shopkeepers calling their customer (mostly girls) 'Janu'

like

  • Suno tu sahi 'janu' ...acha aa aap kitna doo gee 2 suit ka?

  • Acha 'janu' baithoo dosrey colors bhi dekhata hoon.

Re: Terms of Endearment

^Blech!

My cousin (in Pak) once told me how she went shoe shopping and one of the workers there said something like “Vaisay, yeh joota mujhay aap se ziyada aziz to nahin hai.” Funny…but eeew. I’m sure a whole thread could be created to shopkeeper shenanigans in Pakistan. :hehe:

Re: Terms of Endearment

Those guys seem really queer. They always say that when the women are alone, when there is a guy around they always say "Maa Ji, Behn Ji, Meri beyti."
