Tere Bin Laden (Ali Zafar Film) gets banned in Pakistan

Tere Bin** may have its share of fans across the border – including Salman Khan and Karan Johar – but it hasn’t won any support with the censor board.**

The film has been rejected from screening in the country by the Central Board of Film Censors.

Tere Bin* tells the story of a Karachi-based reporter who shoots a video with an Osama bin Laden lookalike to garner fame (and get a visa to the US). It was scheduled to release on July 16.

Ali Zafar is currently in India, where he has been promoting the film heavily. In a statement issued to the press about the censor board’s decision, Zafar said, “People will be viewing the film anyway through pirated DVDs. I just wish that they had gotten a chance to go to the theatre and watch this spectacle under such a positive light that Pakistan requires internationally.”

An official from the censor board told The Express Tribune that the movie had some ‘objectionable’ content and could spark controversies. He said that the matter has been forwarded to the appellate board constituted by the federal ministry of culture.

The appellate board has the authority to allow or ban screening of the film. However, in either case the movie will not be released in Pakistan on July 16. Exhibitor Nadeem Mandviwalla told The Express Tribune, “This is a mindset in our governments that we don’t support legal ways. We want to screen the movie in Pakistan legally but it has been banned and now cable operators and makers of pirated DVDs will let people watch the film illegally,” he said.

Citing the example of Shah Rukh Khan’s film My Name is Khan, Mandviwalla said that the Shiv Sena had warned the Indian government against screening the film but the government took a stand and provided police protection to cinemas. “We have adopted a legal way. The ball lies in the government’s court, whether they support this legal procedure or not,” he said.

Ali Zafar also hopes that the government will overturn the decision. “I hope and request to the government that they approve such a pro-Pakistani film that would slide upon grave issues as terrorism in a light-hearted and jolly film. This film is more of a 95-minute peace tape which by and large reflects the ideology of our nation.”

Zafar says that he will “respect the decision of the censor board and the concerned authorities.” The musician said, “The fate of the film in Pakistan is up to God’s will and His decisions are never wrong. But I do feel unfortunate that a film in a lighter tone – about a Pakistani and Pakistan – and which looks at sensitive issues that we as Muslims and Pakistanis face, is going to be released all over the world and not Pakistan. There is nothing in the film which could be hurtful to anyone’s ideology if seen with an open mind. Perhaps the lines said to Bush about his oil invading policies were a subject of concern for them, but when the whole world has made a remark on it including Hillary Clinton then why can’t we? We should not be afraid of voicing our thoughts and what concerns us directly. This film is the first of its kind and will be seen legally worldwide and illegally in Pakistan on the same date. Isn’t that funny?”

The title of the film was changed to Tere Bin from Tere Bin Laden for Pakistan by Ali Zafar, who was distributing the film in the country. Zafar told* The Express Tribune* last week, “The sensibilities in Pakistan are somewhat different from the international market and our main intention was to ensure that people do not conceive it was a spoof of Osama bin Laden or the Taliban because it is not; it is a very pro-Pakistan comedy about a Pakistani journalist wanting to go to the US.” With additional reporting by the News Desk

**The censorship board refused to give a clearance certificate to Abhishek Sharma’s latest comedy film Tere Bin Laden.
**

The film was to be screened in Pakistan on the 16th of July, but the censor board banned its screening due to security reasons.

The full panel of the censor board watched the film and raised the objection that the film has Osama Bin Laden as a central character, so it cannot be presented in cinemas. The film stars Pakistani singer Ali Zafar, who is playing the role of a journalist desperate to migrate to the US.

Re: Tere Bin Laden (Ali Zafar Film) gets banned in Pakistan

I, for one, am very glad about the news. Infact, any Pakistani artist who lick indian feet should be disowned by Pakistan. This must be made a part of the constituion. If our artists have no self respect & dignity to respect their own country & bring shame to Pakistan through their contribution (in any way) to the most disgustingly hypocrite & anti pakistan media in the world, Pakistan has no place for them. I always thought ali zafar was pakistani pride but look what people would do for worldly fame & benefits which come along with it. These soul-selling piece of sh!ts have no clue how they allow india to make a mockery of them as Pakistanis & of Pakistan globally through what seems 'harmless' to thier tiny, good for nothing brains.

I have no clue what the film was all about as I stop following any news about bollysh!t wanna-be pakistani artists & I have no clue about the political impacts / reasons of banning it but I am sure happy about the news so this soul-selling artist ali zafar & all from his league know what it takes to be a part of the most hypocritic & the only worst enemy of your own country.

Re: Tere Bin Laden (Ali Zafar Film) gets banned in Pakistan

Kudos to Ali Zafar for getting a great role and playing a Pakistani. What's with all the hate, Brits and Aussies act in Hollywood all the time and no one cares.

Re: Tere Bin Laden (Ali Zafar Film) gets banned in Pakistan

I'm with Ali Zafar on this one. It's good he's not wasting his talent in gujjar movies and finally has achieved success. No hope for Pakistani cinema though.

Re: Tere Bin Laden (Ali Zafar Film) gets banned in Pakistan

I had really been waiting for this one:(

The material isnt controversial or so i have heard. They shouldnt have banned it.

This goes to all those who banned.

Sowy for being badtameex but you ask for it:@:

Pakistanis have lost their sense of humor.

I read on CNN that the reason the movie is being banned because they are afraid of the aftermath. That it might incite more terrorism, etc. I don't know how that can be. There haven't been any OBL movies in the past and I don't see the terrorism going away. I don't see how a movie, that would help bring in revenue to cinemas that desperately need it, would make the terrorism any worse.

Whose feelings is the Pak gov't trying to protect?! Idiots.

Ambassador1: Your narrow mindedness and one dimensional vision is more of an embarrassment to Pakistan than any of the things that you have mentioned.

Brits & Assies are not burning down Pakistan's very existance the way india is from all the four sides. That is true no matter how much pakistanis love to remain lost in bollysh!t fantasies & think that is not happening. The worst kind of grudge that no other nation carries for another nation in the world is what indians carry for pakistanis.

You expect me to remain open-minded & liberal for a country / nation which is burning down my home so that I & many like myself who love to live in their own homes rather than pakistanis who leave it to burn in flames only to move to other countries including india have no where to go? And a nation which is so anti pakistan which is clear from the non-stop baseless negative propaganda by their media / showbiz? A country which has banned all the pakistan's showbiz / media productions? A nation which humiliates Pakistan & Pakistanis at every possible opportunity? Sorry, that is never going to happen in my life time. You carry on with licking their feet which is 'open-mindedness' in your words until nothing of Pakistan is left. Well, surely you & people like you would never care because they never considered it pakistan their home to begin with.

I am extremely liberal but would remain conservative in my views with regards to india. Because I am not a stupid (anymore).

^If Pakistanis and the Pak gov't put even half the effort they put into worrying about what Indians are doing or saying about Pakistan, into their own lives and their own country and fellow countrymen, Pakistan would be in much better shape right now.

Re: Tere Bin Laden (Ali Zafar Film) gets banned in Pakistan

^^ go Passo :) I am so tired of this Pak hate on Indian forums and Indian hate on Pak forums. After 60+ years I think even the Brits moved on to their own lives.

the movie has gotten really good reviews! I am looking forward to watching it :)

Why are you wasting your time replying to these senseless people? These people are living in an imaginary world thinking Indians are very good people and its thanks to bollycrap. When they find out Indians are snakes then they will know.

Re: Tere Bin Laden (Ali Zafar Film) gets banned in Pakistan

Saying that all indians are bad is just like the west saying that all muslims are terrorists....we cannot be racists its wrong!
Bollywood has finally casted a good looking pakistani guy as a lead in their movie which is now a hit....they are aiming to look past these borders and just accept one anothers talent...ali zafar didn't sell out...he saw a good script the time was right and he got on board

I am not a fan of bollywood at all...I only watch bollywood movies which have pakistani singers in it but this is fantastic....we have ali zafar becoming a big star in the second largest entertainment industry of the world....we should be proud of him...he is representing all pakistanis in a positive way..he's showing that not only does our country have singing talent but we are also good looking and we can act...I say GOD bless ali zafar and I hope he can represent pakistan in the most positive way

I wish to correct my post number 11 below. What I meant to write was:

Brits & Assies are not burning down "America's" very existance which shold make them stay away from hollywood. In the past 60ys, india has not let any opportunity pass by to meddle in pak affairs with a fantasy to cause all kids of threats to pakistan's existance through pakistanis. but pakistanis like ali zafar & the lot do not think that all effects them in any way because these people are born to enjoy the 'benefits' & good life of this world which their god india gives them in the form of fame & 'opportunity' to sh!t in bollysh!t.

Re: Tere Bin Laden (Ali Zafar Film) gets banned in Pakistan

ytsobe, you say this because you definitely do not know the things i know because they are not known by common public. people like ali zafar, hadiqa (her slutty indian number) & many other have no clue how they are being used by indian terrorists for making the whole pakistani nation a global laughing stock by using them due to their stupidity. i am not going to elaborate here things i know but the day they are able to see it themselves would be a day of sunrise for pakistani people.

it's an excellent fun comedy...

there are no comments for or against Osama in the film...

they are making ali zafar a star...the only people making pakistan a laughing stock are the pakistani politicians
atif aslam is the biggest star of southasia, people know of him and praise him all over the world and his source of fame was bollywood

and calling hadiqas song slutty is a joke...it was a "parody of a filmy mohala" it wasnt her trying to be sexy it was her trying to be funny..which failed...and to my knowledge that was her first and last indian song
but that shouldnt matter

ali zafar is making a good name for himself and he is fighting off haters in india and pakistan because of this move but her is winning the fight...he is showing himself as a good looking talented pakistani and he is representing pakistan in a positive light...away from politics etc.
