Everyone was surprised at how Tendulkar despite haing scored his 100 runs and being the only one standing between South Africa and win, let the two tail enders face likes of Steyn, when he sould have tried to keep as much strike as possible.
For India to avoid defeat, it would have required Tendulkar to bat for 60 overs or score 175-200 runs on the last day with two tail-enders, an almost impossible ask. He knew that it was a hopeless situation. I suppose he should have just tried to save innings defeat.
Tendulkar wouldn't have saved the game with couple of tail-enders but I was surprised that he didnt try to save inning defeat. Avoiding a inning defeat after conceding so much lead could have been a "feel good" factor for India...
Having said this, I dont see it as commitment or lack of it towards India...
Lads it is called making records for yourself and trying to better your average at the expense of your country, and to think the country think he is a god.
Akram dismisses talk of Tendulkar being a selfish player
I have a quiet laugh when I read or hear some people argue that Sachin has not been a true match winner or good finisher for India. To them, I say grow up! What more can you expect from the man, a great cricketer and the best role model for not just young cricketers but all sportsmen. I played a number of times against him and although I saw him get frustrated if things were not going India’s way or he was not playing well, he never lost his cool. I know just how passionate he is about himself doing well and seeing India win. I can still recall how devastated he was in that 1999 Test at Chennai when India lost narrowly to us despite a fabulous hundred from Sachin.
So please don’t talk about him being a selfish or individualistic player; he is not that but on second thoughts, all great sportsmen need to be a bit selfish to achieve the impossible and be successful at the top level. When he started off his career, I remember he was a bit of a half cock player and myself and Waqar used to plan to bowl him full length yorkers as soon as he came into bat and then bowl a few bouncers to unsettle him. But whether our plan worked or not, his wicket was the prized one for us always.
Laxman in the past has shown confidence in the tail enders and it has worked. Can it not be the same in this case. India had to bat for 60 overs at least to force a draw. The problem is with people's expectations. They expect that the richer you are, the more you should donate.

Sachin has never played for himself. Just by picking this case ,you can not defame him.
Awww, c'mon..What does Akram know? He is just the best left arm seamer of our generation! :D
Compared to the clowns..errr..i mean cricketing experts in this thread..Akrams opinion does not matter :)
Akram can have an opinion that does not mean that no one can have an opinion contrary to him. Or are you now saying that because Akram has said it, no one can challenge it. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but to call other people clowns shows your true colours.
