**COLOMBO: International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Haroon Lorgat has ruled out changes to 50-over cricket despite a proposal put forward by Indian great Sachin Tendulkar. **
Despite the success of the World Cup earlier this year Tendulkar, the most prolific batsman in one-day internationals, wrote to Lorgat last month suggesting four 25-over innings rather than the traditional 50-over format.
However, Lorgat said the ICC saw no reason to change.
“I was engaged with Sachin a long time back on his thinking on the 50-over format,” Lorgat said at the launch of the ICC’s Twenty20 World Cup which will be hosted by Sri Lanka next year.
“I met with him during the World Cup and he gave me a written proposal which we took to the cricket committee in May.
“The cricket committee considered the proposal. But the view of the committee which was supported by the Board was that the 50-over format was sound now and there was no need for dramatic changes to make at this stage.”
Tendulkar’s letter also proposed changes in voluntary Powerplays — the fielding restrictions brought in to make the game more exciting in the 1990s.
Re: Tendulkar’s proposal on 50-over cricket rejected
Opportunistic India bashing? India has got to be the #1 source of "making ourselves feel better" for many Pakistanis due to lack of optimism in other fields!
Anyway :D I remember a LOT of international players agreeing with SRT's suggestion.
I'm for it. It will balance out toss advantages due to the pitch nonsense.. There are too many grounds where the historic win% is heavily skewed in favour of the side batting first or second. No?
Re: Tendulkar’s proposal on 50-over cricket rejected
Yes you are right, it was the Pakistani’s who asked tendulkar to give the suggestion and than put pressure on ICC to reject them in order for Pakistanis to gain an opportunity to mock India.

I agree,
Conditions (early morning dew, breeze) do play a part at some grounds esp. during the morning session or the first 2 hours of play, so perhaps both teams should play 15 overs (or one hour) each initially >>> followed by 35 straight overs
but I still think it would upset the rhythm and momentum of the innings!!
Maybe tinker with minor details but 50 overs should be played straight
I would like the limit for bowlers and the number of overs they can bowl to go. If a batsman can play unlimited overs why not the bowler?
Even if they still want to have a limit for bowlers it should be 4 not 5 bowlers i.e. better to have 50 overs bowled by 4 bowlers instead of 5 (min of 12 overs for each bowler). This way each team could play 6 pure batsmen, 1 wk-batsman, one genuine all-rounder and three bowlers. It w'd also mean the end of bits-and-pieces crappy players
2 bouncers per batsman per over should be allowed to test batsmen's technique
The powerplays should be forced to be taken between 20-40 overs.

Agreed that the momentum will be broken. But in a pro vs con case, I think I would take the removal of unfair toss/pitch advantages over breaking the batsmen's momentum anyday. The game is already skewed towards the batsman isnt it?
Regarding Sachin's intention being to actually protect his record.. I actually think the break will result in more 100s.. how many times do we see batsmen throw their wkt away in ODIs after reaching 50s or 100s? The break might actually help them rest, get their head together and go out again with blazing guns.. I seriously think his 200 record will be broken much easily with the split format...
Ya man I've always felt bowlers should not be restricted to 10 overs.. but it's a balancing act.. if you make this unlimited.. teams just might get 4 bowlers proper.. and then you'll have additional batsmen in your team.. I wonder if it's worth it.. unlimited or not.. I am tottally for increasing the limit from 10 to 12 or 14 or something..
