Tendulkar: momentum key for both teams

Sachin Tendulkar has revealed that he has been testing himself against a bowling machine to prepare for India’s forthcoming series against Pakistan, starting next month, and is looking forward to a keenly-contested series.

Tendulkar endured a six-month lay-off from the game, before returning in October, owing to an elbow injury. “I have batted using bowling machines at decent speed,” he said while speaking at a motorsports function in Mumbai. “This is to get the body reacting. Nothing more than that.”

Stressing that his period in the sidelines had been a frustrating one for him, Tendulkar thanked those who provided support. “It was a difficult year for me,” he said. “It was a lot of testing my patience, both on and off the field. The injury was not good, but I must say that a lot of the guys stood behind me…they supported me immensely. That was a very special feeling. But I would just like to forget about it.”

He also stressed the importance of maintaining the winning momentum, citing the last series as an example when India were relentless in their attack. “Our last tour of Pakistan in 2003-04 came immediately after our successful tour of Australia where we drew the Test series, and so we carried the momentum with us,” he said. “Pakistan have gathered momentum after their Test and one-day successes against England. So have we, after our recent run of successes.”

Reacting to Inzamam-ul-Haq’s statement that Pakistan will prepare fast pitches for the series, Tendulkar said that the ploy could be an advantage for both teams. “We have a very good seam attack,” he continued. “Our pacemen bowled really well the last time out.”

He was also not too concerned about the series being played in winter, with the temperatures likely to resemble a more English setting. “Winter or summer, it doesn’t matter. International cricket is always challenging. You have to play in all sorts of conditions. I have played in Yorkshire, in cold conditions where you have two jumpers, two jerseys on. You have to adapt.”

*I predict that Tendulkar will struggle bigtime in this series and will be the beginning of the end of his career. *
I think Dravid and Yuvraj are going to be the major threat for Pakistan in the batting department.

Re: Tendulkar: momentum key for both teams

Beside the rock solid Dravid-Inzi show the most exciting clash would be between these.

Afridi > Irfan/Jaheer Bhai/Kumble
Dhoni > Akhtar/Rana/Kaneria/Afridi
Sehwag > Akhtar
Yuvi > Rana/Afridi
MoYo > Irfan
Kamran > Jaheer Bhai

Re: Tendulkar: momentum key for both teams

This does not sound like a prediction, more like ‘Wishful Thinking’.

Re: Tendulkar: momentum key for both teams

Law of averages says that it is about time that Dravid will hit slump. This is worrying part for me.We may see someone else doing bulk of scoring this time. It may be Yuvraj,Sachin or Irfan ( who knows).

Re: Tendulkar: momentum key for both teams

And your statement sounds like some 1 is not willing to accept the reality:p
Its not like I am hoping or praying that he doesn't perform well. I just stated a fact. Believe me but I would consider Youvraj singh and kaif much more dangerous now as compared to Tendi. I would be relieved to see tendi and ganguly in side instead of kaif and youvraj.
Whatever I said was on the basis of how he has played lately in the last 1 year or 2.

Look at his last 15 test match stats and you will know what if am trying to say. He has averaged 50+ in last 15 matches and scored 1058 runs. But see how frequently he has played mediocre innings. Just take out his 194* at Multan, 248* against BD and 109 against SL. Tendi has scored 507 runs in 20 innings with an average of 25. He has scored these 3 big tons after almost every 10 innings. Mind you the middle one 248* was against BD, so in reality he scored a major ton (109* against SL) after almost 20 innings.
But these are facts only, which sometime could be wrong as well in a way that sometime they misinterpret the reality . If you have seen tendi playing, than you would know what if am saying. He has looked very ordinary most of the times in these last 15 test matches.

Look at his stats in the last 20 ODI. His average in ODI is not even 30 in the last 20 ODI's.
When a player of tendulkar's caliber, towards the twilight of his career is performing that poorly according to his own created standards, what does it suggests???????????? I would let you answer that.

Re: Tendulkar: momentum key for both teams

Dude, an opinion (and a wishful one at that) is not a fact.I am sure he is reserving his best for Pak

Re: Tendulkar: momentum key for both teams

I hope that "bowling machine" is re-programed to deliver the "slower" delivery that Tendulkar and other indian batsmen will face.

Re: Tendulkar: momentum key for both teams

:rotfl: I have a feeling the bowling machine being referred to is our beloved Ajit Agarkar!

Re: Tendulkar: momentum key for both teams

On a serious note I would like to know how wickets did Shoib get his slower once than his super fast once.

Re: Tendulkar: momentum key for both teams

I think he got 4 or 5 wickets in the test and one day series combined with that delivery. The problem for you guys is that his release of the slower delivery was getting more accurate by the match! In the first or second test match, he was wayward with it. By the third, it was a genuine wicket taking delivery.

Re: Tendulkar: momentum key for both teams

..and the one bowled to Vaughn in 3rd Test for a catch was really superb. Vaughn was totally-beaten, surprised and shocked and we can expect that delivery to fill some space in his (auto)biography. That delivery marked the victory in 3rd Test.
