Tendulkar is only improving with age: Akram

Coming from a former rival, thats surely some compliment :k:

Tendulkar is only improving with age: Akram - CRICKETNDTV.com

Impressed with Sachin Tendulkar’s match-winning 44th century against Sri Lanka at the Compaq Cup final, former Pakistan captain and pace legend Wasim Akram said the Indian batting maestro is like a vintage wine who is only getting better with age.

“He is improving with age. He is becoming greater with time. I don’t know when he will stop playing cricket. He is just amazing. At the end of his career, Sachin would set all the possible batting records,” Akram told a sports website.

Tendulkar scored a classy 138 on Monday against Sri Lanka at the sultry Colombo conditions to help India register a convincing 46-run win and lift the title.

The 36-year-old mesmerised the ground with his classy strokeplay as he smashed 10 fours and a six in his 133-ball innings to set the platform for the win.

“It was Sachin’s knock that won the game for India. Sachin was superb in his strokeplay and even though there were useful contributions from (Rahul) Dravid, (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni and Yuvraj (Singh), it was a total Sachin show,” Akram said.

“He must be super-duper fit, that’s for sure. To come with such a marathon knock in humid condition is a job well done. It shows how well he has prepared his body even at this age. The youngsters must learn from him,” the fast bowling great said.

Re: Tendulkar is only improving with age: Akram

Yeah sure its an compliment
I cannot say about you complimenting anything that is Pakistani or from Pakistan
One needs guts to do that dude.
Look at you how u are bragging about Tendulkar....your first sentence is so smelly lolz

I think u were just dying to hear from Wasim Akram complimenting Tendulkar.
such a shame that you thrive on that.

Re: Tendulkar is only improving with age: Akram

good batsman, class to watch, but never a fighter.... So whatever he does, he can never be in the line with Waughs, Lara and even Inzimam :)....

Re: Tendulkar is only improving with age: Akram

^ One of the oft repeated criticisms against Tendulkar has been that he is not a "match winner". However, performances such as this one against SL should provide an answer to all doubters :)

Re: Tendulkar is only improving with age: Akram

Though Sachin is my favourite player, I would not consider him in the league of match winners. True he has won many matches for India, but few are the matches when he delivered when India was in a crunch situation.

I would consider Lara to be the greatest among the matchwinners. For me SAkthar is also there, though many of my Pakistani friends would disagree...

Please...

This is not the first time that WA is complimenting Sachin. Sachin is a great player by his own right.

Re: Tendulkar is only improving with age: Akram

I am NOT talking about the fact that Sachin is NOT a great player dude so please read carefully what i write and do not make quick conclusions :)

cheers.

His match winning credentials, do not match his other achievements. They are good enough to match with many other good batsmen though.

There are few players who appear to have an edge, in terms of reputation as fighter, like Steve Waugh, Brian Lara, Arvinda D Silva, Inzimam, Miandad, Ranatunga and Gilchrist. They have played innings that turned tables on the opposition.

This does not take much away from Tendulkar though, as he may still be the best batsman ever.

Very true :) He will primarily be known as the best batsman of our times rather than a match winner.

where did I say he is not a match winner.... I said he is not a fighter, he does not stay till the last or long when chasing something big.... his 2nd efforts in ODIs and 4th inning efforts are very rare... he has failed at times, which Waugh, Lara, Inzimam have proved at many a times...

Even though he is a class of his own, one treat to watch and praise.....

so please dont mix up the match winner and fighter thing... hope that helps.

You mentioned PIU was dying to hear WA praise Sachin. I just mentioned that this was not the first time... Please read your post again. You might understand what you wrote.

Produce sthg even half as good as tenu and you will get the compliment.. sorry we can't gush over hit and giggle type batsmen like afridi..

bla bla bla

Re: Tendulkar is only improving with age: Akram

What is match winner anyway.. it's not individual game it's team game

Re: Tendulkar is only improving with age: Akram

^^ you can understand from todays game and also do the maths with Cricinfo stats guru to see what he does in 2nd or fourth innings :)....

Actually this general view about Sachin is not supported by stats

Tendulkar averages more (56.43) than his career average (44.48) in ODI games (117 games) in which India batted second and won

And even if you look at all ODI matches (regardless of whether India won or lost) in which he batted second (222 games), Tendulkar averages a healthy 42.64

So that should lay the debate to rest

I think this goes back to what was posted earlier…his other records are phenomenal  However, his match winning credentials, though not bad, do not compare well to his other achievements.

Its almost like we expect Tendulkar to help India win every match
