Tendulkar becomes first BILLIONAIRE cricketer

Sachin Tendulkar has a renewed contract with WorldTel to manage his commercial activities. The value of the endorsement - according to a source close to both parties - is close to a staggering Rs 1 billion over the next five years.

“Given all the shenanigans of some Board officials in the last few months, this is a breath of fresh air. It’s great,” WorldTel president Mark Mascarenhas says. “Tendulkar is not just an extraordinary talent but somebody who is a friend, someone who all of us admire.”

Tendulkar’s original, path-breaking agreement with WorldTel (signed in 1995) which fetched him around Rs 30 crore over five years, expired towards the end of 2000. Cricket circles doubted whether the batting maestro would sign again because though WorldTel made Tendulkar a very rich man, Mascarenhas was dragged into one controversy after another.

“There’s been considerable speculation in the market,” Tendulkar said in a statement. “But the break from a busy cricket schedule has given us the opportunity to cement our relationship. WorldTel has done a great job in handling my affairs and I look forward to more years of association.”

Asked what plans he had now that he has netted the big fish again, Mascarenhas replied: “Many. There is a whole world of opportunities out there. For instance we have this idea of starting a chain of restaurants with Sachin’s name.”

It was the Mascarenhas-Tendulkar combine that gave Indian sport its first multi-million dollar contract. However, the combine still has some catching up to do when it comes to the megabuck deals of global sport. Golfer Tiger Woods has notched up an unbelievable $ 530 million in career earnings and endorsements. The superstar of Formula 1 racing, Michael Schumacher, has $48 million in the kitty. And A boxer Mike Tyson is up there with $ 48 million.

This is really impressive.

However, I have a small question… when we say “Billionaire”, don’t we usually mean in US dollars, or is Indian rupee billionaires as good? (I have heard lots of ppl are billionaires in Italy, but that is irrelevant)

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

Anyway, Indian Rupee, or Italian Lira or Bangladeshi Tekka… a billionaire is a billionaire… Good for him!

1 billion Indian Rupees ~ 14.98 million Great Britain Pounds
(@66.75Rs/GBP)

1 billion Indian Rupees ~ 21.3 million US Dollars
(@46.95Rs/USD)

1 billion Indian Rupees ~ 41.0 million Australian Dollars
(@24.43Rs/Australian Dollar)

1 billion Indian Rupees ~ 24.3 million Euros
(@41.10Rs/euro)

1 billion Indian Rupees ~ 47.6 million Deutche Marks
(@21.02Rs/DM)

1 billion Indian Rupees ~ 173.6 million South Africa Rands
(@5.76Rs/SA Rand)

1 billion Indian Rupees ~ 47.17 billion Italian Lira

(@47.17 Lira/Indian Rupee)

Analyse for yourself !! Tendulkar still seems to be giving the Aussie,English and South African cricketers a run for their money. The currencies of other cricket playing nations(including ofcourse Pakistan) are far too weak !!

Thank you, come again

Well, chilli jaan-e-mann, so based on what you said, in conventional sense, he is a millionaire or a multi-millionaire, if you say…

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/wink.gif

But hey, who cares… I am just nit-picking… he is still $2.13m richer than I am… and thats a lot!

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

and yeah… those poor Aussies…!

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/hehe.gif

I wonder how much Tendu makes from cricket, though… like how much does BCCI pay him? Any ideas?

Aussie board had announced last week, that with their new payment plan, they will create the first millionaire (in Aussie $) cricketer of the world.

ya think its too late to become his bestest buddy?

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

Waisay, chilli .. I hope Tendu uncle doesn’t make you his accountant, warna bilkul kangla ho jayay ga!

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/hehe.gif

1 billion Indian Rupees are approximately US $21 million, and not $2.1 million!

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smash.gif

Jaldi say batao, where did you hide the remaining $18.9m?

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/biggrin.gif

I stand corrected !! Looks like I missed
a zero in the billion when dividing it by the exchange rate.

My sincere apologies to Ten-du !!

yep, thanks for pointing it out !!How come it took a day for you to figure it out ?

Do you seriously believe anyone cares about your opinion...
What's this about cows ? Don't have anything better to contribute, as usual....

India should start spending the money on its economy/country rather than giving it all away to movie stars n cricketers...

I agree a 100%

Thank you, come again

Now what is all this about India needing to spend on its people. The contract is not from the government it is from a private firm trying to market its products. This is the spirit of capitalism.
Best of luck to Tendulkar in spending the money. The guy is undoubtedly a fine fine cricketer.

I am amazed how poor commerce sense some Pakis display at times.
Some time back a wise Paki guy said that India should spend money on eradicating poverty rather than make high-budget films. How absurd !! Do you guys think the Indian Govt. makes budgetary allocation for bollywood movies and for paying Sachin Tendulkar. And to think that WorldTel(which is paying Tendulkar) is not even an Indian company.

And there is Jasleen talking about cows when the topic is about Tendulkar making billions.
I have a feeling that most Pakis when they run out of anything better to say , think that an easy way to bug an Indian is to talk about slaughtering of cows . For all you pakis let me just say you can murder/butcher/kill/slaughter/rape as many of your COWS as you want... for all we CARE !!

I call them 'COW'ards

When they run out of arguments they start talking about cow's tail , cows liver, cows urine, cow&*&( etc etc. Why these idiots think Indians have copyright on Cows.

Or is it somekind of mad-cow disease there ? I am not angry but pity these guys.
