Temptations

It does not matter what my temptation is. I just want to know how others deal with temptations and even overcame them.
chocolate, sexual temptations, shopping temptations, any kind of temptations you’ve dealt with. Distracting thoughts away from the temptation.

Prayer helps but it’s a major challenge even then.

Re: Temptations

I try to find something else that can distract me or occupy my mind.
It is rather difficult to provide you with guidance because different kinds of temptations will require different types of remedy....

Re: Temptations

Come on people, it's the holy month of Ramadan, there must some temptations that you must be trying to overcome and have succeeded at.

Re: Temptations

must I reveal my temptation. I would think temptations are just a test of our willpower regardless of which one it is and I am having a difficult time. My mind of course sees it as wrong and one that will cause trouble in the future but the devil on my shoulder keeps egging me on to go ahead and try it

Re: Temptations

I deal with it by talking to my friends, gathering advice and then sitting myself down and logic-ing it out. Basically sit down and think about how this is affecting me and what can I do to solve it.

Re: Temptations

at least, think that Allah is watching you and your actions are recorded by kiraaman kaatibeen. iA, that will work for ALL kinds of negative temptations.

Re: Temptations

I've been trying to find a way to overcome the temptation of sweet desserts for a LONG time. No matter how many times I tell myself that I only have 4 more months until my daughter's first b-day and I have to fit into a nice outfit and look like a hot mama....my temptation for cookies, cake, ice cream always takes over. sigh I just can't stop myself. :(

Re: Temptations

Went through this phase of life...simply coz of depression. But I'm glad I'm over it. Here's my solution for the above mentioned problems.

food = do a lot of cooking, cook gourmet, cook for others.

sex = don't think about it...stop before it starts.

shopping = make a budget, read world affairs section in news, give charity, limit yourself to buying only 1 item per month.

Re: Temptations

Okay single people would deal with sexual temptation by getting married but marriage isn't just about having legal sex it's much more, compatibility and only when we find someone that is right for us would we take the risk of marriage. Marriage scares me when I see how many seemingly "perfect" couples are getting divorces. I feel like other single people are satisfying this temptation without strings attached, non religious ones or ones that feel sex does not need strings or commitment or emotion, it's just a need to get a carnal desire satisfied. It means something to most. I feel totally disgusting and so far from anything moralistic for having any temptations whether it is sexual or otherwise.

There we go! I outed myself

YOLO!!!

Re: Temptations

Actually not many people do that. There are surveys that show hardly 20% of young people in US engage in no strings sex, and the hooking up scene. Most people have to get into committed relationships or get married in order to have a sex life.

And here's the catch. It hasn't got much to do with the religious beliefs of the other 80%

Re: Temptations

Would you mind posting links to these surverys?

Nearly 3 in 10 young teens ‘sexually active’ | NBC News

Here ya go.

Re: Temptations

^ That survey is about **13-16 year olds **and they interviewed only 1000 teens! :smack: I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure OP is referring to adults(18+) when she talks about single people satisfying their sexual urges without strings attached.

GlobalGal: What’s your definition of “no strings attached”? Marriage? Engagement? What about 2 people who date and stay faithful to each other for a few years (let’s say during undergraduate/graduate studies) even though BOTH know it’ll never lead to marriage (ie. they break up and go their separate ways after school)?

Re: Temptations

You just need to be able to differentiate between what is right and whats wrong.

Easy as that for me. I’ve easily held out regardless of what the temptation is…so far anyway :hypo:
