Temporary Marriage

Yups, coz my best friends WERE Shia.

Rehman1; who just finished his Quranic studies, came back on Gupshup after so many days; must be familiar of this aspect of Sunni fiqah.

What do you mean by this. Inuit.

Book 008, Number 3243:
Abdullah (b. Mas'ud) reported: We were on an expedition with Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and we had no women with us. We said: Should we not have ourselves castrated? He (the Holy Prophet) forbade us to do so He then granted us permission that we should contract temporary marriage for a stipulated period giving her a garment, and 'Abdullah then recited this verse: 'Those who believe do not make unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress. Allah does not like trangressers" (al-Qur'an, v. 87).

another hadith is sahih muslim:

Book 008, Number 3249:
Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported: We contracted temporary marriage giving a handful of (tales or flour as a dower during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and durnig the time of Abu Bakr until 'Umar forbade it in the case of 'Amr b. Huraith.

this is clear enough..so please dont bring in any hadith that is contradicting to the above hadiths..just because some of you have never heard of mutah does not make it haram..like i said before dont hate us if we say NO to bidat

Firstly, with all due respect to those of you with different views, I just want to add that the vast majority of Islamic scholars consider Mut'a to be forbidden in Islam. One thing that is a historical fact, is that it mut'a was one of the pagan practices amongst the Arabs before the advent of Islam. I think the main difference of opinions are Sunnis believe that the Holy Prophet (pbuh) banned mut'a during his lifetime, whereas maintream shias believe it was allowed to continue until it was banned by Hazrat Umar.

exactly the point perhaps.

consider the situation where you are inflicted with that particular problem and do not have the resources to get married.

'screwing around' is greater evil.. dontcha think?

i'd also like to add that the basis for that belief, that it was banned during the second caliphs time, has also been provided in the thread, again from sahih bukhari.

edit: furthermore, i'd like to ask people who have genuine concerns over it.. how is it worse than having relations with your maid?
