I have a friend whom asked me about Heaven and Hell in Islam. I dont know how to go about explaining this to him. He thinkes he believes in reincarnation but he isnt set in his beliefs, and wants to try and understand mine. Now how in the world do I go about explaining this. If anyone knows of any good articles//links that discuss the matter, do share. Thanks.
This is a serious matter, thanks for understanding.
Thank you for the link sadzzz, although I dont really agree with what that site states about other issues, but I will check out the article nonetheless.
The gound of paradise will be of Saffron. The sand on the ground of Jannah (saffron) will be of pebbles and rubies. The bricks of the palaces in Jannah will be of gold and silver. The cement between the bricks will be of strong musk. The thickness of the carpets in those palaces will be equivalent to the journey of 500 years. The gardens outside the palaces will have streams flowing beneath them.
The streams of Jannah will be crystal clear water, of pure milk, and of
honey. There will be no evil, anger, pride, jealousy, etc. in Jannah. Upon
enjoying the food and fruits in Jannah, there will be no need to relieve
oneself. Passing wind and sweat will be sufficient for digestion. The
greatest bounty in Jannah will be the announcement from Allah about His eternal Ridhaa (pleasure) for the dwellers of Jannah.
Allah Ta'ala says in the noble Qur'aan, 'And the Ridhwaan of Allah Ta'ala is the greatest. The greatest pleasure of Jannah can be achieved by one doing acts of virtue for the sole pleasure of Allah, thus making his life on earth or brief experience of the greatest pleasure in Jannah.
May Allah Almighty grant us all His Ridhwaan and enterance into Jannah,
Aameen. and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best
Hell is the place of fire. Allah will punish the disbelievers and sinful
Muslims in hell. The fire of hell is 70 times more than the fire of this
world.
Hell is called Jahannum or place of fire. It is the eternal place for
disbelievers and a temporary place for sinful believers. The Qur'aan
describes the fierce blazes of the fire.
Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, 'The fire of this world is
1/70 of the fire of Hell.' He said, 'The fire of Jahannum burnt for 1000
years until it was red, then another 1000 years until it was white, then
another 1000 years until it turned black.'
Jazak'Allah khair, let uz chat. This information along with other info I have gathered from sadzzz and other things I have read up on myself, should be of great value in explanation. Thanks again the two of you. smile

No virtuous one knows what bliss is kept hidden from him, as a reward for that which he used to do [32:18].
In interpreting the verse that we have just cited our lord and master, the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has said that heaven and its bounties are such as no eye has seen, nor has any ear heard, nor have they been conceived by the mind of man. They are described in physical terms but we are told that their source is the soul and its righteousness. The trees of which are their faith and the streams of which are that righteous actions. In the hereafter also they will eat of the fruits of this paradise, only those fruits will be sweeter and more manifest. As they will have eaten those fruits spiritually in this world they will recognize them in the other world and will exclaim: These appear to be the same fruits that we have already eaten; and they will think that those fruits resemble the fruits that they had eaten before in this world.

It is explained in Dante's Inferno quite explicitly.

If its in English, its the 'smoke of the antichrist'.
