He’s easily the greatest batsman that I have had the pleasure to watch over the years and I have been following cricket since 1985-6. He was a true genius of the game. While guys like Tendu, Lara, Ponting and Miandad milked fast bowlers (apart from the odd belligerent strokes) Viv destroyed the quickest bowlers like noone. Imran Khan called him " THE genius of my time “. Ian Botham wrote in his autobiography, ‘I find it very hard to believe that there has ever been a better batsman than Viv’ and Wisden wrote, " Viv truly took on the world in a cap” Only Gilchrist comes close to Viv in belligerence but he’s a left hander.
