Tell me about West LA

We’re moving there to live on Barry Ave. I’ve never even been to California. Does anyone have any advice or could you give me a description of what it’s like? Thanks.

Re: Tell me about West LA

hey saima, I live in LA, though not West LA.

west LA is a pretty cool place (in comparison to the rest of LA :) ), close to the ocean, lots of entertainment.. hollywood, sunset strip, UCLA, museums, lots of beaches, great weather 24/7, quite a few halal restaurants and desi shops.

Barry Avenue is pretty non descriptive, do you know what area specifically you would live in?

Re: Tell me about West LA

LOL, her "Location" says Brentwood, CA. I think she herself is not sure where Brentwood is. Just drive down the street, sorta south-west of Brentwood and you would know what West LA is like :p

Re: Tell me about West LA

lol.. i used to live a block from Barry - on Barrington Ave, and still have friends living in the area. i loved the neighbourhood, but then i was a student. if you have a car, you are within 15 mins of anything you want. one of the cleaner parts of LA, imo. if you have any specific questions, do ask.

Re: Tell me about West LA

Thanks for the maps. We actually had an apt in Brentwood but lost it due to the manager's error. So now we have a place in WLA. That's why my location still says Brentwood, I should change that now.

Queer, we will have a car. My husband already warned me about the traffic and said that you have to drive to get anywhere. I already know where the nearest drugstores, grocery and malls are. (West Side Pavillion). So next we'll have to figure out the furniture situation and try to get things set up on a budget. My husband told me about a used furniture store in Brentwood that sells very nice pieces. We're also considering the Ikea in Burbank.

Ravage I would love to know about the Desi and Halal places. Please let me know. Also are there any halal meat stores around that area? Thanks for your help everyone.

Re: Tell me about West LA

West side pavillion is close by, but the Santa monica mall is probably closer. grocery and drug store is not an issue at all in that area. maybe two to three blocks before you run into one.

Re: Ikea, my hunch is that the carson one is probably a wee bit closer than the burbank one, and you dont have to do the 405-101 traffic in case of carson. there are a few good used furniture stores in west hollywood too, and many of them deliver for free to stay competitive.

west LA is filled with persians (my persian friends call it mini-tehran), so you will find plenty of halal and kosher stores. i never ate desi while living there, but "javan" restaurant on santa monica blvd is a must eat persian place thats just down the road..

Re: Tell me about West LA

ewwwwwwww.

Re: Tell me about West LA

don’t worry. we’re not getting used mattresses.

Re: Tell me about West LA

Old furniture can be a great deal, especially if you are into painting them new.
