Telephony, TV and Internet on single line

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Thursday awarded the first Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) licence to the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL).

Only four out of 49 countries of the Asia Pacific region have launched this technology so far. PEMRA Chairman Iftikhar Rashid said the IPTV was the most modern technology being adopted in developed countries, enabling users/subscribers to enjoy a triple-through-one mode using an IP network. “Television, Internet and Telephony can now be availed on a single line,” he said.

The PEMRA chairman said that built on a digital platform, the IPTV would offer superior service quality to subscribers compared to the traditional cable system. He said the technology would offer viewers the choice of a variety of selected programmes through a Conditional Access System (CAS), in addition to parental control, Pay TV, video on demand, high-speed data and Telephony.

Rashid said that PEMRA had issued 1,400 cable television, 87 FM radio, 18 satellite television licences, 26 landing rights to foreign television channels, five MMDS and two DTH licences in the past two years. He said that PEMRA was committed to providing people with healthy information, entertainment and education through various broadcast mediums. He hoped that PEMRA’s liberal and accommodative policies would continue to promote the broadcasting media. staff report

Pakistan is going in very much in "entertainment" zone, though all development is good for the economy but I wonder what government is doing towards improving infrastructure of country.

Re: Telephony, TV and Internet on single line

Leave the neighbors alone and make sure you turn of the tv when you see your kids watching anything you consider imoral or unethical?
