Mute button zindabad! I take conference calls over lunch and I will eat at my desk but put the other person on mute while I’m chewing (or even coughing or sneezing). You usually know when it’s your turn to speak - so I chew fast to avoid chewing/coughing/sneezing in their ear.
I don’t usually ask if they’re busy - they’ll let me know and I hate when people don’t leave messages - no message, no returned call
